View Full Version : Trip to England
After a couple of weeks of uncertainty (company bureuacracy) I can now announce that I'm making a flying trip to England, next week (from Friday 5th). :cheer: I'm attending and presenting at a conference, but while there I might as well stop in and see my parents at the company's expense. :D
Are there any active members here living in southern England? Or only expats like Helen and me? Leesifer? Not that I'll really have time for a meetup. :sadcheer:
I will be checking in here until then but probably too busy to check all threads. I apologise to those I haven't done justice in replying too.

Good for you, Joe!
I've had a couple layovers at Heathrow and spent an afternoon exploring the city during one of them, but I've never given England a proper visit. Enjoy yourself. :)

I hope you get enough free time to be able to take advantage of the travel. I know England isn't as far for you as it is for me (CA, USA) but I'd be a bit rushed to get ready that fast for international travel.

Hi Joe,
I'm actually in South East England, you know the wonderful county of Essex. Whereabouts in southern England will you be?
Also, I work in London, so if you're in the City we could get together for a swift half at lunchtime or something. :tapbeer:
Leesifer - I'll be in north London (Barnet) Saturday and Sunday with my parents. I may just stay there and meet family I haven't seen for a year or so, but I have a South African colleague who'll be staying in central London in a hotel and is keen to fill his time, so may go in. The conference itself is in Brighton! So won't exactly be convenient for lunches.

A £20 gift voucher to the host.
No, I'll be presenting on Using Service Management to Unlock the Business Value in an Outsource Relationship: A Case Study, the outsource relationship in question being between Business Connexion (www.bcx.co.za) and Sasol (www.sasol.com). So there.

Oh well, maybe next time.
Enjoy your trip.
Just out of nosiness, how long have you been in South Africa then?
Oh well, maybe next time.I kind of knew there wouldn't be much of a chance of meeting anyone even when I posted the question. But it's been a surprise to me that there are so few Brits on the board, considering the population relative to SA, Aus or NZ.

9 years, but I've been back or had family out here every year or so.

I still think we're a bit behind the rest of the world when it comes to socialising on t'internet.

Nice.
I'm off to Australia for the fourth time on New Year's Eve. Still thinking of emigrating there sometime in the future. My step kids live in Melbourne, hubby has a half-sister in Adelaide and one of my best friends lives in Sydney.
