My rearview mirror, that is. Yesterday the temperature was 100+ nd my car sat out in the dirrect sunlight for many hours. The result is that the damn rearview mirror adhesive failed and it dropped right off the damn windshield. :fuming:

ANy clue what to use to reattach it?

get thee to autozone.

you need some superglue, they actually sell glue that is for rearview mirrors. you will need a razor blade to scrape off the glue residue before putting the new glue on and i advise you do it at night when it is cooler.

yep. It comes in a kit. But before you scrape off the old glue residue, you'll want to outline it with a crayon in order to get your rear-view mirror back in the proper place.

yeah, reattaching (http://www.automedia.com/Rearview/Mirror/Attachment/ccr20011001rv/1) a rearview mirror is no big deal.

I wasn't sure that I wanted to know what fell off...

Glad it was only your rear view mirror. :phew:

How do you know the mirror fell off? is it possible the mirror was fine and the rest of the car fell away?

Either way Cyanoacrylate will do the trick.

I was very worried my brakes would fall off today. I replaced the front pads on the Chevy yesterday, expecting the same success I had a few weeks ago with the rear pads. Unfortunately, something went amiss, and there's a hell of a knocking noise. I guess the car's off the road until I can figure out my error.

Cyanoacrylate, but it doesn't really work. It'll just fall off again when it gets hot. Been there, done that. Best thing to do is get a third party rear-view mirror that you can screw into the roof.

My old truck's rear view fell off 4-5 times over the years. Finally, it just stayed on the floor on the passenger side. I didn't need it anyway.

Man, that was a good truck. I miss it.

My mistake. Brakes were fine. It was just my wheel coming off.

To get the mirror to stay on, you need to get the two surfaces to be glued CLEAN.

And I don't just mean a quick wipe over, they want to be surgically clean. Wash them with mild detergent, then water, then alcohol and finally with pure water using a super clean lint-free cloth. Once the glass and the attachment point of the mirror are super clean, make sure not to touch them before gluing - fingerprints ruin all that good cleaning work!

I recall that when I had to reglue a mirror on (Fiesta, got knocked off by a rifle impact), there was a piece of gauze/mesh that was placed between the glass and the 'stand.' I can only assume its purpose was to ensure sufficient glue would not be squeezed out by pressure.

75% of cars are held together by cyno, screws cost way too much money. surfaces must be clean, as Ceptimus said. Screwing into the roof isn't a good idea... especially if you have a convertible.

J-B Weld. You better get it in the right place before it cures, because it's a bitch to get it off again. You'd break the glass trying to pull it off. The stuff's good up to 260 C, if your car gets that hot on the inside then you need to move.
