I have to admit I was pretty happy with this movie ( http://www.bubbahotep.com ).

I had a smile on my face throughout the entire movie, even if I might not have laughed out loud very often.

Bruce Campbell plays a great Elvis, never over the top, always in character subtle and funny.

I don't know if everybody would like this movie, it isn't full of action, it is almost a retrospect of Elvis with a mummy thrown in. Its pacing is slow, but appropriate for a rest home.

Just thinking about it makes me laugh.

Beyelzu you narrowminded bastard.

I'd never heard of that film but it looks interesting. The average rating at IMDB is 7.6 out of 10 with over 5,000 votes. So we know it's very popular with people who have seen it and vote at IMDB anyway. :D

It looks like it's supposed to be campy and/or a cult flick. I'll check it out.

Thanks Scotty. :)

With a title like Bubba Ho-tep, I'd expect it to be camp.

This was a cool movie - In some weird was it was campy & kind of moving too. It's difficult to explain. While it's considerably different, it reminds me of a similar approach Tim Burton took on his film "Ed Wood."

Why is that? What is camp anyway? I have a particular kind of film in mind when I say camp, but I don't really know what specific attributes are 'campy', or what it really means.

damn, that is a prety good rating, although in my defense, if I had realized that Bruce Campbell was in it, I probably would have rented it.

I can still imagine the movies isn't for everybody (isn't that normal?) but I enjoyed it, and it kept my interest even with the slow pacing.

All of the acting was good actually, everybody was believable (well, except maybe Bubba Ho-Tep I suppose :) ).

JFK was hilarious.

/me shrugs

Like the man said, I can't define it, but I know it when I see it. Just the title alone screams "campy" at me.

Well I'm glad I'm not alone in not knowing exactly what it means.

Here is the Wikipedia article on 'Camp.' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp)

It is hard to define exactly. The article focuses more on the social orgins of the term more than the entertainment usage. It mentions the Fifties SciFi movies as examples. To that I would add the Sixties TV Batman. Essentially, Camp is something that is cheezy and often intentionally over the top. It doesn't parordy a genre, but it does go over the top.

THX1138 hit the nail on the head. While it's this ridiculous riff on mummies with Elvis (played by Bruce Campbell, no less), it's also about aging and isolation, and most especially regret. Wonderful film, I've seen it twice. And I can't wait for the sequel, which is now in pre production - Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires.

Serious as a heart attack. If you watch the credits, it actually mentions the sequel, and it's just been confirmed that since the first did so well, they're going ahead with it. Should be awesome, though I'm not sure how they'll work everything.

The whole thing is very absurd - even more so than you would expect - but it still manages to be wonderfully understated and reflective. If you like Bruce Campbell, you have to see it as soon as possible.

Okay I've just seen it, and I liked it a lot. Definitely unique and campy. The storyline was a bit reminiscent of David Lynch to me, but the cinematography and soundtrack foil that comparison. Good flick. :yup:
