I just found out this morning that a friend of mine Bobby's soninlaw died in Iraq this past weekend. I cant think of the guys name right now. I met him several times while having dinner at Bobby's house. The guy has a kid less than a year old. Just a couple of weeks ago Bobby and Deana( bobby's wife) came to town and I didnt get around to saying hi.
The whole family is some of the nicest people you will ever meet and now they have one less member.
Fuck that cocksucker bush and his idiotic fucking war.

That's awful, bey. Now I get why you were kind of going off on the other thread. I'm so sorry for your loss and your friend's. :(

I'm so sorry, beyelzu.
I, too, was hoping that less people would have to die so violently for...well, I don't even know what it is they're dying for anymore...but I guess that was a pipe dream. :(
It's harder when the people who are doing the dying on another's shitty fucking behalf are people you know and good people, at that. Damn. :(

These song lyrics were written about Viet Nam back in the '60's, but it's appropriate now.
And it's one, two, three what are we fightin' for?
Don't ask me I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Viet Nam.
And it's five, six, seven open up the pearly gate
Ain't no time to wonder why,
Yippie! We're all gonna die.

Ahh, the fixin' to die rag.
Yes, it is appropriate. Sadly.

That is shitty, Bey. I'm really sorry to hear it.
A guy I knew and grew up with since I was 10 was a U.S. Marine aviator in the first Gulf War. He died when his Harrier jump jet went down in the Saudi desert, apparently due to disorientation. I live two blocks from his grave. It is freaky still to think of him and to realize that he is one of those war heroes we honor on Memorial Day. He was only 28 at the time of his death.

Thanks for the responses everyone.
I guess it really does bother me more because I think the us went to war for no real reason and that makes his death meaningless.
It is easy to downplay casualties on paper, it is fundamentally different to know someone who died in war.
I think I am going to call bobby and deanna now.

There were five of them killed, bodies burned too badly for recognition, dna testing is going to be done. Funeral next week sometime.

sorry I went off on you in the other thread.
I understand your reasons for being a republican and I understand why people vote for the republican party. Truth be told, I still share many of the underlying beliefs just tempered or more moderate now. I do not have a problem with moderate republicans, I just cant stand the religious right and the neocons arent much better. again sorry about the other thread.

No sweat, man. Accepted.

Mine are pretty tempered too. Somtimes I think some here have gotten the wrong idea about my beliefs. Perhaps it is because in political discussions I tend to post criticisms of others' remarks, rather than to act as a proponent of my own beliefs so much.
I'm not beholden to the President or his administration. I'm just not calling for their heads. There is a difference.

soninlaw actually,
but thanks. their daughter is already living with them, she moved in when he deployed. I am also friends with Bobby and Deana's son richard. I spoke to him for about 20 minutes tonight. I know that they are going through hell right now. Their church is being very supportive which is cool. I guess it is one good thing about religion.
