Eh, I guess I figure that I'll say howdy with one of these things. I'm a history/poli sci double major in university. Flaming n00bs is a high quality sport.

Oh I forgot to upload my avatar, I'll get around to that later in the week.

The first few seasons were pretty good, haven't seen too much of it in the past few years though. Bellsprout is my favorite Pokémon mostly because he beats down the annoying rat Pikachu, and my favorite episode was when some guy took a Bellsprout and completly pwnd that pathetic rat.

I guess I really got into it back in high school. Used to spam battle this guy in a forum for a game we used to play online. He'd spam up stuff like PIKACHU I CHOOSE YOU !!! and so I started to counter-spam him back with BELLSPROUT I CHOOSE YOU !! We'd have pokébattles in the forum and basically torment the new admins who were being huge dicks at the time anyways.

Eventually we became friends and shared our HTML secrets that made it harder to delete our spam. We also became allies in the game and dominated lots of folks.

I'm afraid I don't know much about Pokemon beyond a high-level geek perspective. That is, I spend enough time watching cartoons, hanging out a game/hobby/comic stores and just skimming the surface of geekdom, to have some idea about Pokemon.

That being said, I hate that motherfucking Pikachu. Shitbag.

I wonder if there's a bellsprout smiley out there?

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 03:02 AM
That sounds about as far as I got into Pokémon. I liked the show, never got into the video games and played the card game against my will. Well I did like one set of Pokémon cards and bought a bunch of dark pokémon cards.

I found this on google a year or two ago and just love it...

I don't get CCGs, frankly. They look cool. They have a game for just about every single geek interest there is, but I just can't get into them.

I picked up the "Vs." CCG from UpperDeck. Great packaging. DC vs Marvel. Nice artwork on the cards.

I read the rules. Then I read them again. And again. And again.

I still don't know how to play. And I'm too embarassed to ask the 15-year olds at the store for lessons.

I started playing Magic in high school. I have a bunch of cards and still play every once in awhile with my niece and nephew. They are games that are a lot easier to learn by playing than by reading the rules.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 03:12 AM
Most of them are pretty easy to play. I used to play Magic up until 1999 when I feel they just ruined the game. I'd play Pokémon when I was begged to play and I have some Sailor Moon cards somewhere.

I like minitures more than CCGs these days but I'm not sure which I like the most RPGs (D&D/D20EQ/Battlelords/BESM) or strategy board games (Risk/Axis&Allies/Heroscape/ect.)

Every now and then we pull out the good ol rts games and pwn up some n00bs in starcraft...

I've got a massive multi-thousand point Eldar army (Warhammer 40K) sitting in my basement. They've been ordered to stand down years ago and pretty much have had nothing to do but play with runestones and swap old war stories.

I picked up some Heroclix (I'm a superhero geek) for the models. Nice minis, but again, I don't know how to play the game.

Given that I'm way too "cool" to hangout at a hobby store these days. I pretty much get all my gaming jollies through RTS games. Haven't played StarCraft in a long while. I've been spending way too much time with "Dawn of War". Excellent RTS version of WH40K

And now you have moved on to playing conservative and spamming this place.

Me and my friends are just getting into Warhammer, fantasy. I'm working on building up a 1k dwarven army, well you know eventually something like 10k or so but for being broke 1k is a starting point.

The whole clix thing pisses me off greatly. It is basically dumbed down warhammer with shoddy figurines. That is one thing that I've stood strong in refusal to play, I think I did once in high school.

I have trouble hanging out at the hobby stores, so I just get together with my friends and we play our RPGs and are waiting to start pwning each other in warhammer. My friends won't play board games with me anymore because they got stomped too hard :(

If you want a really good game try shattered galaxy, it is a free game you dl (well you can pay and get the few extra things but don't need to until you max out the free account). I haven't played it in a few months but I was starting to gain power, just that my computer got really slow for a while and haven't been back since I've fixed it.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 03:41 AM
Oh yeah because impersonating folks on battle.net in 2002 and spamming up a place in 1999 or 2000 is exactly what I'm doing now...

I've been thinking about building a Fantasy army. Dwarves are a good choice. Devastating cannons and whatnot. I'm thinking Undead for myself. Great models. But, Lizardmen and Skaven look like they'd be fun to paint.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 03:42 AM
Right now I'm going iron breakers and a gyrocopter...

wei yau
08-02-2006, 03:47 AM
Sounds pretty solid, from what little I know of fantasy. Dwarves got great weapons. But, personally, I like fielding a BIG army. Lots and lots of cannon fodder. So, Skaven or Lizardmen would work well for me.

But, I probably won't ever start a Fantasy army. Like I said, I got a HUGE Eldar army gathering dust. And Games Workshop is just getting more and more expensive. My first Eldar Dreadnought (now Wraithlord) was purchased in a blister pack for $11.99. Today, it's in a box and costs $29.99. Same friggin' model. Same friggin' stats. Same friggin' metal.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 03:49 AM
I heard they just upped stuff again in July. I really like the game, but as a broke college student it is really hard for me to just get off the ground. Sure in two years when I'm rolling in the cash I'll be able to get all kinds of stuff, but until then...

wei yau
08-02-2006, 03:52 AM
From someone who is way out of college, I can tell you this much.

The kid, the mortgage, the groceries, the insurance, the utilities, the cars, the gas, the just-about-every-other-frickin'-thing-in-the-world....takes precedence over GamesWorkshop and their inflated prices.

You might be able to find some good models for cheap on eBay. Some of them are even painted already.

You will paint your army, right? You're not gonna be one of those punks that fields an army of unpainted metal or, worse yet, primer-white.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 04:02 AM
I'm painting my dwarves in the colors of the PRC since we joked that the dwarves remind us so much about the Chinese.

So far I have my general painted and I guess now I'm going to start working on my gyrocopter. I might play my friends with that good ol 'silver' colored army, but other than that they will be red and yellow.

I plan on having my house paid for in 3 years or less (after I start working in 2 years) and I don't forsee a child until the house is paid for.

wei yau
08-02-2006, 04:05 AM
Hmm, as a Chinaman, I'm pondering whether or not I should be insulted by the Dwarf comparison.

Good for you with getting the house paid off. Wish I was that smart when I was that young.

I actually enjoy painting more than I enjoy gaming. Someday, I'll have to take some pics of my Warhost of Ulthwe and post 'em here at the FF.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 04:06 AM
Oh along with the dwarves reminding me of the Chinese, I also forsee a moral victory over my opponents who will most likely be some neocon retards who will go into a rage at the way I plan on painting my troops and not be able to think clearly.

wei yau
08-02-2006, 04:12 AM
Let me know if that tactic works for you. I see red and yellow and I don't think of the People's Army. I think of McDonald's. Now, that's a good paint scheme to use. Red and yellow and back banners with the Golden Arches.

Definitely a Skaven army.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 04:14 AM
Well I'm going to try and paint my banners in that goo ol sickle and star pattern.

wei yau
08-02-2006, 04:17 AM
The Red Chinese use the yellow star on a red field, no?

livius drusus
08-02-2006, 04:18 AM
The sickle and star is Soviet, I believe. CCCP and all that.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 04:19 AM
Hmm why did I suggest a sickle? Maybe it was the curved shape of the stars that did it for me. Either way, you know what I ment.

soviets had the hammer and sickle as their main thing with a minor star just there in the background

livius drusus
08-02-2006, 04:24 AM
Oh right the hammer! Man, I can't believe I forgot that. :shy:

wei yau
08-02-2006, 04:26 AM
I'm thinking that maybe you should stick with hammer and sickle. The hammer works into the dwarf penchant for mining and you still get your commie-hater bait. Besides, I think the Soviet symbol has some permanence in the general cultural mindset than the Red Chinese flag.

Old style Soviet dwarves would be a hoot! All part of some mining collective. Dwarven women with beards and built like tractors.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 04:27 AM
now you know how i feel about my error on the chinese flag...

though it should have been more obvious with the soviet one since they made such an issue out of the hammer and sickle as the two tools of the proletarit thus the symbols of the revolution...

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 04:28 AM
hammer and sickle is going to be a bitch to paint on my banners

wei yau

The Hammer was memorable, until he released "Pray". I think that really started his downhill slide into obscurity.

Still, 2 Legit, 2 Quit.

wei yau
08-02-2006, 04:31 AM
Decals, man. Decal transfers.

Check out military model manufacturers like Tamiya. They might sell separete decal transfer sheets. There's gotta be some out there with hammer and sickle, for old Soviet tanks.

But, maybe not. Usually they were emblazoned with a red star and not the hammer/sickle.

Mmmm...hamsicle.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 04:37 AM
I'm going to hit up the gyrocopter with the red star...

I might try to paint it like a hind or havoc...

Which set/block do you feel ruined Magic? Urza or Masques (both largely in 99).

Cuz if you think Masques did but that Urza was fine, then I'd have to say you weren't a very mature player at the time... cuz Urza was ridiculously overpowered. While Masques was underpowered, I can see why they would do that after Urza. If they want the game to be more fun, they can't keep on upping the power level, otherwise you get 1st turn kills like in the Urza block, which is not fun.

If you think it was Urza block that ruined it, then ok... but I'd recommend giving Magic another chance, it's a lot more balanced nowadays. Of course, you still have to spend ridiculous amounts of either time or money on it in order to be competitive in constructed tournaments...

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 05:06 AM
Urza + 6th edition (or was it 5th?)

The end of Ice Age and Fallen Empires really made me question what I was doing, since those were my two favorite sets. I think even Mirage was the beginning of the end, though Urza and the next numbered set were the final straws.

beyelzu
08-02-2006, 05:06 AM
and thats why i never really dug constructed decks. i made some good ones. i had a great onefive, erhnatradeserendibageddon deck which was loads of fun, but for the most part i played limited formats. i was ok at booster drafts and great at sealed deck. i still love sealed deck.

Really? Ice Age and Fallen Empires?

You're a weird one. You like the sets with the ridiculously crappy cards and themes that were underdeveloped (snow covered was handled very poorly, I think, and a lot of cumulative upkeep cards, or most even, were total crap). Not that there aren't a number of cards I like from those sets. The overpowered (broken, even) Hymn to Tourach was always a favorite.

I do understand the nostalgia for those days, since the power level was so different. Then again, me and my friends who played weren't that good anyhow, so my nostalgia would include the fact that we could play with such crappy decks and still have fun.

But I loved Tempest and the non-broken parts of Urza's.

The current block, Ravnica, is loads of fun tho.

But yeah, I'm really just into limited and casual constructed. Tournament constructed is too much of a time/money investment. I waste enough money on it, chasing down dual lands (there are new dual lands, not referring to the old ones) and shit is just too much.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 05:28 AM
They got rid of lightning bolt :(

I loved thalids and merfolk...

Every now and then I'll throw together something with that in there and go pwning n00b kids who were still in diapers when I was playing the game

erimir
08-02-2006, 05:34 AM
I wish they'd bring back Merfolk too myself.

I can understand why they got rid of Lightning Bolt tho, it's a bit overpowered. It's fun to pull out decks that use it against the young'uns tho.

All of the cards in that cycle are out of print except Giant Growth and Healing Salve now (no more Dark Ritual, and Ancestral Recall has been out for a long time, of course). Dark Ritual had to go too, since it was even more ridiculous, since it enabled things like first turn Hymn to Tourach's and other such ridiculousness.

angrybellsprout
08-02-2006, 05:35 AM
I should pull out a lightning bolt/fireball deck on these kids...
