"I'm only drunk, but you're a jew. Tommorow I'll be sober but you'll still be a jew".
Mel to cop:
"Oh fine, I see where this is going. You guys killed Christ and now you want to crucify me. OK, be like that!"

I'm moving this thread to the Atrium, since I don't really see a News, Politics or Law angle. I understand that Mel Gibson's recent Jew-bashing comments were in the news, but it seems to be more a thread for anti-Jewish jokes than a discussion of that current event.

"Occifer, by any weird long-shot coikyndink would you by any chance happen to be a jew?"

Anti-jewish remarks is stretching it.
It's humor over a situation in which Mel Gibson, a jerk by many accounts and a pious catholic and supposed jew-villifier in his film has stepped in some deep shit. No one has said anything "anti" jewish here. Live a little. Move the thread if you have to but the liberty of charaterization of the humor was overkill. If anything, the thread is intended to be anti-Mel Gibson who earns a foot in mouth award among other things. There's always has to be a wet blanket, dosen't there?
(So this forum is really different, eh?)

Yeah, the Stormfront folks don't even invite me to their parties anymore. :(

The jokes my be in poor taste, but I wouldn't say anti-Jewish. What do you mean by anti-Jewish, vm?

I thought they were making fun of anti-Semitism. Or at least making fun of Mel Gibson pretending not to be an anti-Semite.

Maybe "anti-Jewish" has implicit connotations I didn't intend. I meant it as shorthand for something like "jokes mocking and/or belittling Jewish people and their cutural and religious heritage and practices". I don't think one has to be "opposed to Jews" (the strict definition of the term, I guess) to make anti-Jewish jokes. In any case my reason for posting was to explain why I moved the thread, not to start a debate about the quality of the content. (Not that I'm entirely opposed to the idea, of course.)

No kidding. It could have been moved without the contention. Better administrating next time.
FYI, I'm an admin elsewhere myself. The job is best done without punctuating things with a contentious remark. That way, we just adjust and move on without the BS.

The fact is I considered making a comment about the content of the thread when I perused it at work, but decided against it. When I came home I saw it again and decided it didn't belong in the NP&L forum so I moved it, and when I added the explanation for the move some of my distaste for the content apparently inadvertently came through in my post. However as I said, critical commentary wasn't my intention.
ETA: To be clear, I do agree that adding commentary to the move notice was inappropriate and I apologize for doing so. I've also removed a bit of unnecessary snarkiness from the top of my post.
This thread is a :trainrek:
I didn't find any humour in it at all

F'n A Quiet Bear. It's up for grabs and some people find humor in it and some don't. My sympathies to those who can't just let others have a harmless laugh.

Oh, I didn't say it was funny. LOL. But then again, Jay Leno isn't either.
Personally, I don't feel anything about this thread one way or another. I just saw a punchline. LOL.

I'd say that this forum is different, insofar that the opinion of an admin carries only about as much weight as they've earned as a member of the forum and not merely by virture of their administrative responsibilities. This is, of course, different than when an admin lays down policy, but that's not an opinion, is it.
So, vm's characterization of this thread as being anti-Jewish is his opinion. And he's certainly entitled to it and it carries no extra weight for his being an admin...as far as I'm concerned.
My opinion? I don't know if this thread is anti-Jewish, but it's certainly anti-humorous. I can actually feel the funny being sucked out of the area around me. I'd post more, but I am afraid that if I spend much more time in this thread, my boxed set of "Newsradio" would end up transforming into a boxed set of "Joey"

What is and isn't 'harmless' is obviously arguable. If you want to actually make an argument or give the reasoning behind your conclusion that making posts on a public forum that ridicule people for their cultural or religious beliefs and practices is 'harmless' I'd be happy to debate the subject with you. But I assure you I don't need your sympathy, as I'm quite willing and able to "let others have a harmless laugh".

Not presumed that you thought it was funny but it is funny how some things play. I don't really think Jay Leno is particularly funny but apparently it's enough to get him where he is.
It's a polite thing to just move on if something is not your bag, but some people get their jollies by taking no risks and then pushing themselves up by pushing those who do take risks down. It's their illusion.
I can't imagine going into a forum and telling someone their humor is anti-humor sucking away my will to live. Who is that a statement about really?

Hmm, at this point I turn to my TV dad for advice:
you know by tattling on your friends, you're really just tattling on yourself. By tattling on your friends, you're just telling them that you're a tattletale. Now is that the tale you want to tell?
No worries, RareBear. Just saw an opportunity to make a joke. Sorry to push my risk-fearing self up by pushing your risk-taking self down.
How about we just politely move on?

Well, the Jews are a very funny people.
The Jewish comedian's job is to make Jews seem non-threatening and provide cover for the Jewish conspiracy that rules the world and starts all the wars.
Those damn clever Jews!
