View Full Version : Update on Chris

I write this as tears are streaming down my face and can't catch my breath.

Chris was sentenced to the max inprisonment time of 9 months. He's spending the next two weeks in Teller Co. (about an hour away from CoSp) and then he'll be in Mirimar, San Diego for the remainder of the time..

I dont have an address yet, I'm expecting to wait a few days until he can write me with the addy. I know for damn sure I'm going to see him as often as possible while he's still relatively close by, and if anyone would like to come with me, you know my ##(or can PM me for it)

But for now, I want to stomp around, cry, punch something, then fall on our empty bed and cry myself to sleep. Someone kill me now. :fuming:

Oh- and the best part! Chris and the ashole who turned him in, have to ride up to jail in the same van. That's two hours Chris is spending in a van, with an immature little snitch he wants to kill.

Jamie,

Sorry to hear that Chris got maxed out. Frankly, although I was holding out hope for a lesser sentence, I'm not surprised. The military as a whole does not take well to drug distribution, possession, or use. As it was likely that a majority of his court-martial panel would be made of career military persons, they most likely do not use illicit drugs and do not understand why anyone on active duty would, given the enormous risk to one's career and liberty.

Anyway, I empathize with your sense of hurt and loss as much as I can. I've never been in your shoes, so I cannot sympathize. I do wish Chris the best, and you as well while you are handling the forced separation from him.

Please let us know how he is doing if you feel like sharing it with us.

I got to talk to Chris soon after the court-martial was over. He's definitely taking all this like a man, like it wasn't even affecting him. There I was on the phone- crying, begging him not to hang up the phone. Knowing him, this whole "situation" is gonna hit him really hard in about a week.

I'm feeling a little better.. I gave his best friend Tina a call and we were on the phone for over an hour. She lives in San Fernadino-area and offered to house me and Andy (roommate) when we visit. It was really catharic talking to this woman, talking about all the things we love about Chris and the cute little shit he does.. We talked about our relationship and how thankful she is that we're together. I wholehertedly agree with her, I know Chris and I are a splendid pair. She started calling me her Sister-in-law and I got teary-eyed again.

I informed her about the "truth" behind the charges, they were exaggerated and not wholly true - especially the distribution charge. The "Other guy" in the case did everything Chris did plus more, and he got four months in a county jail. The guy made exaggerations and misrepresentations about the situation and basically got Chris in a LOT more trouble than he ever should have been. And after over eight months of being under investigations, having OSI agents follow us around, and legal being complete morons, Chris gets pegged with a very unfair sentence(all things considered)

I know Chris didn't go into much detail with you guys, but I felt there were a few things that needed to be cleared up.

I'm sure I'll add more to this tomorrow, but for now I'm exhausted. Thanks again everyone :)

I don't want to offer false hope or ignorant suggestions when you are (understandably) upset, so maybe skip this post and come back to it in a few weeks.

Is there any chance of him getting out early for good behavior? (I know very little about the military justice system).

Is there any chance of convincing someone to bring charges against the other guy for lying to investigators or committing perjury?

Chris Loflin
Teller County Jail
PO Box 730

I'm just really happy that all contact wasn't cut off. IT's really reassuring that I know he's only an hour away, four days a week.. for at least the next two weeks. I know it will mean SO much to get letters from his friends, knowing we all love and support him through this asinine injustice.

Yes to both! Firstly, inmates get five days knocked off for every month of good behavior. :D

Secondly, kinda yes..The charges were already finalized and the sentences are being served.. BUT There is something called clemency, and from what I understand.. To everyone who can: can write a letter to the judge asking for leniency for x,y,z reasons (I have plenty of reasons and examples if anyone is feeling un-creative). I know this won't get the "other guy" in for longer, but if enough people write clemency letters, I have a good feeling that he'll be out in a much shorter amount of time. Once I get more information about that, I know you guys will let your voices about this injustice be heard!

I know Chris is so infinitely proud of everyone's support :squeeze: :squeeze: :squeeze:

What kind of stuff will be in there? I will call the jail and ask when I know what'll be included.

The Teller County addy will be good for at least the next week. I have a good feeling he'll be here for the duration of his time, as driving/flying him out to San Diego for seven months would be a huge waste of money :) If the address is no longer valid, I will definitely update this if I hear anything..

I received a letter from Chris today. He and Jeff, who was the finger-pointer, are in the same "pod" at the jail. They have patched things up, apparently the investigators played them against each other, had no concrete evidence, got confessions out of both of them... bad deal for them, another feather in the prosecutor's cap. Chris says jail isn't that bad, just has had to slow down, realizing even 9 months is a long time. Chris thinks he will still get paid, because forfeiture of pay wasn't spelled out in his sentencing. Chris thinks so because Jeff has received his pay since going to jail, maybe Chris will too. Chris looks forward to his release and the termination of his military service.

I'm going to write him back soon. Anyone want anything relayed to him?

The Teller County address is no longer valid. I met with Chris and two goons from his squadron at the airport this morning. ALL his pay is forfeited, and the AF will be garnishing his re-enlistment bonus from all future paychecks. That bonus was $7k.

Just a wee bump because I finally managed to get my shit together and ship it to him. Um... I meant that metaphorically. I did not actually collect my feces and send it to the above address; just a bunch of magazines, a book, a ferret pen, and a color printout of his bday thread (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1010) and a chatty letter.

Noodlenader, do you know if they go through his stuff or censor things? Most of the mags I sent him were Fortean Times which is a totally fabulous read about unusual/so-called paranormal phenomena. There are some shady ads in the back though, like for British head shops and whatnot. I'm wondering if someone will go through the magazines with a fine-toothed comb and keep them from him because of those kinds of things.
