View Full Version : The moral values of a graceful loser

Alan Keyes, the crazier-than-a-fish-in-a-car-wash Republican, refuses to congratulate newly minted Democrat Senator Barack Obama of Illinois:

"And I find it impossible, in fact, to be intimidated by traditional practice into extending congratulations that, to tell you the honest truth--not anything personal, but just from the simple point of view of the notion. I'm supposed to make a call that represents the congratulations toward the triumph of that which I believe ultimately stands for and will for a culture evil enough to destroy the very soul and heart of my country? I can't do this. And I will not make a false gesture."

That was Keyes, who was parachuted into Illinois from Maryland, speaking yesterday to Christian talk show host Scott Thomas. Perhaps the fact that Keyes lost by something like 60 percentage points, beaten like a rat in a wastebasket, as Hunter Thompson would say, has something to do with his bitterness. Evidently this was the most brutal electoral flogging a candidate for Senate from the state of Illinois has ever endured.

Despite Keyes' affirmation that the general election results were an affirmation of America's dedication to "moral values," he can't even bring himself to just be a gentleman for a few seconds. Or maybe he just won't be intimidated by evil. In addition to Satan, Keyes blamed the RINOs* and the press for his loss.

On election night (or it may have been the next morning) I saw part of a speech Keyes made at his headquarters. In it, he was ranting about rights. He claimed that rights do not come from man, or from the Constitution, but from his god. He then said this has serious implications. I couldn't control my nausea at that point, and had to change the channel, so I didn't catch the rest of his theocratic bullshit.

What an absolute waste of human skin. What a complete asshat. What a laughable numbskull. What a emptyheaded asswipe. What an asshole.

No, actually, I am not at a loss of words.

Look at it this way: a quarter of the voters in Illinois actually pulled the lever for Alan Keyes. He's insane, but 1.3 million people voted for him.

There are 1.3 million deranged, hopeless lunatics wandering about in that state. And the proportions are probably about the same everywhere in the country.

That should terrify us all.

I'm not so pessimistic. I bet a huge percentage of those people pulled the lever 'cause he's a Republican without knowing much at all about him. Oh wait, maybe I am pessimistic.

Hmmm... Hard to tell, isn't it?
