The title of this thread is taken from the title of this article. I want first of all to point out that the wording implies that Arafat is guilty or responsible for the conflict.

"He will not be buried in Jerusalem, because Jerusalem is the city where Jewish kings are buried, not Arab terrorists."

Things are about to get a whole bunch worse in Palestine.

Both the Jews and the Palestinians revere the wisdom of Solomon. He would cut the body in half and grant the burial rights of each half to each side of the dispute.

That's hilarious. :)

President Bush's Christian faith would justify his re-election if he were to play the role of King Solomon in this matter. I'll write him a letter.

Dear My Bush,

Since you are king of the world again, I thought you might do me a favour.

The Arabs living in the part of Israel called Palestine will get angry if their leader isn't buried where he wants, but the Israelis don't want to put him there.

So, I want you to cut Mr Arafat's body in half, and give half to each side so they can each bury him where they want. He'll already be dead, so it's not like stem cell research or abortion.

Thanks heaps,
Abe

I think short and sweet is the name of the game.

Also, this is really like my first post here, so can I say fuck?

(Edit: Wow, I can -- it's just like HBO!)

Not yet, and despite having three threads and about 4 comments deleted, I have yet to even get a formal warning. It's not like I am not trying!! :)

Fuck God. Ahahaha!
(I don't mean it if there are Christians reading, he's cool by me)

From the article: The fear is that if Mr Arafat was buried there it would reinforce Palestinian claims to Jerusalem as the capital of a future state.

Erm... Huh? It's not like Arafat is the Palestinian messiah or anything. Why would his burial in Al Aqsa or anywhere else in greater Jerusalem reinforce Palestinian claims to Jerusalem?

It seems to me that the Jewish kings quote reflects the more visceral than political nature of the refusal to bury him in Jerusalem.

Hang on, he's not actually dead yet! Politically it is over though.
I think the problems of choosing his successor will be a bigger deal than his burial.
I hope Palestine gets a leader worthy of the task.

It occurs to me that it is in the interests of the Israeli government to make as much of a mess out of this Arafat burial issue as possible.

I would say that it's because the more horrible a-rab terrorists they have to kill, the more money and guns they get from the USA. Or something.

Israel's policy has consistently been to agitate and provoke the Palestinians, encouraging extremism to aid their portrayal of the Palestinian people as murderous and incapable of dialogue. Most of Israel's terrorist activities in Lebanon and the Palestinian Territories are done in the name of "retaliation", which is a buzzword for acceptable violence in Western media.

They want a war, because they will win, and because they can get away with even more in the confusion than they usually do. If there was a total uprising, journalists would have even more trouble getting any idea of what's going on, and later the vague stories of Israeli atrocities would be marginalised or ignored. Any respectable US publications foolish enough to make a point of them will quickly be accused of anti-Semitism and it will drop the matter, perhaps printing a retraction.

Meanwhile, Western perceptions of the Palestinians as "mere Arabs", savage and incapable of diplomacy or cooperation, will be intensified. Sympathy for the Palestinian cause will be damaged. Even more severe and permanent occupation of the Palestinian Territories will be rationalised and justified. Support for dismantling the illegal Israeli settlements will be undermined.

Etc. Etc.
