Kick back here with a 50 cent whiskey shot and a whore and discuss the day's happenings. No game playing, though, or you'll find yourself impaled on a rack of antlers faster than you can say cocksucker.

Quick clarification on the rules: How many times do we have to say "motherfucking" per post, and is there a difference in exchange rate with "cocksucker"? And do we get extra for motherfucking cocksucker?

TomJoe
08-24-2006, 04:47 PM
If you're Jane, every other word should be cocksucker or fucker or motherfucking cocksucker.

For everyone else, using cocksucker should at least be once per post.

The hoople bit is confusing me 'cause everyone seems to expect everyone else to be "acting like hoopleheads" with the motherfucks and cocksuckers in the game thread, but as I understand it there are only three hoopleheads. So are we all expected to pretend we're hoopleheads?

Everyone in Deadwood let's loose with the motherfucks and cocksucks, even the respectable types. There's only one person who doesn't cuss on account of her refined upbringing -- Alma Ellsworth -- and she doesn't have a part in this game.

Acting like a hoople means drunken fisticuffs, vm, not just run-of-the-mill abusive profanity.

I don't see how they can form a "strategy" at this junction. I am pretty sure that there is only one PM, from B to S, and not an indefinite exchange on one occasion. 'Course, that there deity might be able to clear the matter if she be so inclined."

Obviously yes they get more than one PM as mentioned. But by communicating now they can set up a sytem for communicating inside the game about their targets for the night and the results they get.

Don't see why not. It's like if Bullock told Swearnagen hat if he found out a Pinkerton he'd say caboose when he replied to that person. Which is the dangerous part of the code, as it's in the open, if the mafia look closly they'll be able to see it and possibly elminate both characters. That's why the two characters would have to work out a very discrete system.

alright again as an aside guys.

utter has bullocks view and he will have his own tonight. he should out today. he is only going to get the one view anyway. and he can clear three people. himself, and his two views. i think he should out today to take himself out of the running for the lynch. limits the field of suspects. he gets protected today and he can communicate with the vigi tonight as to the other innocent. tomorrow 3 people will be clear most likely and utter will know a fourth clear the vigi. this certainly narrows the field nicely of suspects and it will take several days for the pinkertons to kill off that many people.

and no one seems to really be discussing it much in the game thread, but yall should.

it doesnt seem likely that the bullock was the swearengen kill, it seem likely that adam being adam made contact last night. i certainly hope he did anyway. and of course the cochran can stand in the way of dan.

My father was in the construction business all his life. Construction workers are boom town migrants, following the "big jobs". Hooples. And they talk pretty much like that. Fewer "cocksuckers", more "SOBs" and "bastards". "Stupid son of a bitch" was usually the site leader's name, or the contractor. During his career, about the time I turned four, he became a construction inspector for an architectural firm....he became what he called "a spheroid son of a bitch", the wrench in the works for either end, architect or contractor. He had the authority to make sure the contractor met the architect's specs, or if it couldn't be done and a change order was necessary, he would be capable of explaining the contractor's position to the architect.

Anyway, I grew up with this stuff.

ah...I see.

I forget...are the vigilante, and Swearengen, separate and discrete entities in this game? Can they be taken out?

The reason I ask is that I've kinda considered hanging back to be a "tell", I guess, that the player is trying to stay out of the way...has reasons to not want to attract any attention. But then, camp specials, like Bullock, Utter, Doc, and Calamity Jane, have reasons to go the fairly low profile route, too.

I do think that the timed sessions helps the bad guys (Pinkertons, here), because they can actually sit back and be totally non-committal and let the hooples/townies do all the work. Time works for the townies, not for the pinkos.

I still think "Molehunt", a spy versus spy game, would be an appropriate adaptation of this game.

Joshua Adams
08-30-2006, 07:46 PM
Swearengen functions as the vigilante. For narrative purposes, Swearengen sends his bulldog Dan Dority to do the deed, but there's no person with that role in the game.

But then, camp specials, like Bullock, Utter, Doc, and Calamity Jane, have reasons to go the fairly low profile route, too. That's the hell of it. It's not good enough to know somebody's hiding something. You have to have some idea of what they're hiding, which is a fair sight tougher.

MC, was a pinkerton. I knew I was correct.

Adam
08-31-2006, 02:13 AM
OK, I think we've moved past the point where my suspicions from day 1 can impact anything.

bey, I beat a confession out of vm because he was just too insistent that he had reasons for wanting to hasten Smilin's trip to the gallows on day 1.

Incidentally, my other suspects were capp, MonCap, and Crumb, in roughly that order. MonCap, as others have noted, wasn't really acting like himself, and all three of them sort of tripped my suspicion based on their interactions with vm. It didn't help their standing in my mind that all of them made contentless "oh noes, the sheriff is dead" posts after I was taken out. Joshua made the same choice for the second knuckle induced confession that I most likely would have, based on my thinking after Day 1.

Nightson, I felt kind of dumb, b/c I'd considered contacting you on the first night and setting up a code even before you mentioned it, but I wasn't sure if it was within the spirit of the rules or not. I guess my not doing so worked out better anyway, given that that card remained for Joshua to play on night 2.

Btw, JA and Nightson, it probably looked different to someone who didn't know both your identities, but I about crapped myself when the two of you started chatting about how the sheriff and Swearengen should interact on Day 1. I was sure one of you was going to get it on night 1, but I was apparently wrong. Which raises the last question I wanted to ask...vm, MonCap, why me? Did I leave a tell, or was it just dumb luck that you got Bullock on night 1? JA, you said you saw something that could have been a tell, right?

At any rate, great job, town! The role claim was brilliantly timed.

Joshua Adams
08-31-2006, 02:18 AM
I thought your asking Nightson "is that legal?" was like a neon sign. I didn't actually realize that Nightson was Swearengen though, so perhaps I only noticed your tell because I already knew you were Bullock, as I said. That's not to say a more astute Pinkerton couldn't have noticed either. I mentioned this to Nightson in our PM and told him I expected him to get it that night based on the same exchange.

Did you have my identity at the start? edit: oh, guess so, I can't read.

By the way, the big reason I chose capp was because I didn't want that WIFOM cloud hanging over the town from vm's vote, not because of anything specific he did on day 1.

Yep, I knew who you and Nightson were.

Did you have my identity at the start?

You didn't have the sherriff's real identity?

That's curious, because as Calamity Jane, I had one person's identity...the Doctor.

I knew that Adam was the sheriff, but I was asking whether he knew who I was.

I kinda wondered if JA might be the sheriff, but I didn't pick up on anything from Adam.

I also thought up the whole code thing as soon as it was revealed as a game mechanic :blushes:

I was hoping that a lot more people would latch on and discuss it, that way I and the cops could blend in.

Another great write-up liv, this game has been made so much more interesting and enjoyable due in no small part to your literary skillz.

I am so fucking excited about the town win that I can practically taste at this point. Someday, I'm finally going to be scum, and if there's an unbroken history of scum wins, it wouldn't look like any sort of challenge.

And I second, third, fourth, whatever, on liv's write-ups. All of the :ff:'s games have had great narration, but this one raises the bar fuckin' considerably.

i agree, having been successful scum, i really wanted to be a successful townie. and actually help the town towards victory.

I fucking hate you all. I got lynched! :sadcheer: Once the game is over, I shall explain our reasoning. I will say one thing, though. You were not my first choice. I shall explain further when the game is over.

Well I may be dead, but I'm nowhere near ready to concede defeat. Mark my words: My family will rule the day.

I am not conceding defeat either. I am merely stating that I will explain our logic once it is over. I do think we might have made some tactical errors, though. I noticed that I was acting differently as well. I hope that I get to be scum again, though. Even though I got lynched I had a lot more fun being a bad guy then an innocent townie. I wonder if that says anything about me.

uh, dude, there is only one person left in your family.

the town leads right now 7-1 after tonight we will either have victory or be up5-1, so yeah, the town is all but victorious and hearst is kicked out like the miserable cocksucker he is.

That is what you think. Don't be so overconfident. Things may look bad for us, but it isn't over until God make a post telling us who won.

Nightson
08-31-2006, 04:24 AM
Heh, we got this one in the bag, I'm going overconfident all the way. :yup:

cappuccino

We have every reason to be confident. All the puzzle pieces have fallen into their logical order. There are only two possible choices to who's the remaining Pinkerton. :yup:

whatever, i dont see how the town cant win from here.

dont be a sore loser, just lose.

Nightson
08-31-2006, 04:29 AM
And even if it isn't one of the two logical choices, I can't come up with a scenario that doesn't have to confirmeds and one uncomfirmed in the endgame. (Well, unless I die tonight)

I am not sore at all. If you guys win it will be well deserved and I will gladly congratulate you then. However, the game is not over and won't be until God says it is.
