Tennis Balls

Apparently this is the "latest" internet "controversy". :unnod: We can settle it fair and square here.

Since no one is ever on :ff: anymore I don't even have to say: "Wait for the poll."

My golden retriever would love to weigh in on this. I'll throw a green one and a yellow one at the same time and see which one she prefers!

Most tennis balls are chartreuse, but they'll fade to yellow after use.

So if yellow and green are the only choices, yellow is probably closer to true, but it's still not true enough to get me to officially endorse yellow.

What is your white balance set to?

Re: Tennis Balls

I've seen some truly yellow tennis balls so it probably depends on the brand, but I assume you're talking the yellow-green ones, it comes down partly to linguistics. Just like 'blue' the range when we say 'green' is bigger than we might expect. A lot of things we thing of as green are really yellow green and I bet if people were asked to pick a "middle" green it would be closer to yellow than cyan. Things like 'grass green' are much more yellow than you might imagine and when editing photos I've taken to looking in the yellow channels first to adjust green grass and trees.

Just because no one comes to :ff: anymore; doesn't mean we won't notice that you forgot Poland. :nfpoland:

This optic yellow nonsense only started in the 70s.

That's it! White. They are supposed to be white.

Re: Tennis Balls

They were never really white. I remember them being a very light fawn colour - sort of light grey with a hint of brown. I suppose the new ones were designed to be very visible against various tennis court colours - including grass, so yellow would seem more sensible than green. I've seen a lot of bright pink ones used at local courts - but I guess they're not approved for use in major tournaments.

Wait ... do you mean this kind of colour: ?

Is everything on FF written on the surface of a giant, historical, tennis ball?

Hmmm....Sounds right for bunny balls and SQRL balls, but I think we're talking something of larger diameter.
