People need to start getting the fuck off my internet

Shit's all fucked up and shit.

I could have put this first one in the Gender thrad, but I think everyone needs to read this, including all you jerks who don't read that thread:

The end of kindness: weev and the cult of the angry young man | The Verge

Just recently, it's weird that just someone saying free speech throws up a red flag for me. Which is ridiculous. I love free speech! It's my favorite! But things like that whole weev thing and some of the other shitnozzles yelling about their freeze peach have actually gotten me to the point where I kinda almost don't even fucking care anymore.

Kathy Sierra is a better woman than I am, I tell you that much. I understand it's important that his case not set some precedent, and he shouldn't be locked up for THAT, but I can't help still being happy he's locked up and crying like the stupid little baby that he is.

Here is another story that ugh.

OMG I know! It's really uncomfortable to me.

Re: People need to start getting the fuck off my internet

I think the main reason is that most of them are really really stupid, and they seem to think their 'free speech' means they can say or do whatever they want and nobody can criticize them for it.

Just shitty little baby men.

Speaking of, here is Kathy Sierra's response to weev on shopping blog Tech Crunch, after Tech Crunch gave him an award and a byline:

State Machinery For State Machines | TechCrunch

One thing I really worry about is that, when anyone brings up things like this, well meaning (and some not) people always start suggesting real name policies as if that would cut down on the threats. But that's so demonstrably not the case, when you actually look at the outbursts. The people making the threats, more often than not, aren't barely anonymous if at all. I've seen tons of dudes doing it from their Facebook accounts, and those who do have a pseudonym usually have pretty weak anonymity that could be tangled out in 10 minutes. weev identified himself in 2008, because he wanted credit for what he did to Kathy Sierra and others. (And yeah, let's not call that shit 'trolling.' It's not.)

Those guys aren't vulnerable. They're mostly pretty open about who and what they are, and they don't expect to suffer any consequences. The only people 'outed' by real name policies are the people they're stalking.

Re: People need to start getting the fuck off my internet

If you're using your free speech, to be defensive about your free speech, it's a diversion from whatever axe you're grinding. Exceptions are possible but very rare.

I don't know what except actual enforcement would deter some people from threatening others. And even enforcement would only encourage some people, persecution complex and all that.

Summary, people are assholes.

Criticism of my free speech is tantamount to stepping all over the 1st Amendment to the Constitution, doncha know?

You know you've been reading Gender 101 too long when you hear about male journalists getting death threats and you think it's progress.

I know I shouldn't double post, but what the hell. Someone pointed me to a very good blog post on the difference between free speech and what these whiny boys are calling free speech that belongs in this conversation.

I found this other article that is much funs.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am a reader. I started to teach myself to read when I was supposed to be napping. I read instead of interacting with my peers. I read to the exclusion of many other things I should have done. I read things I loved and things I hated. I read the words of the incomprehensibly brilliant and the words of drooling idiots. I've read YouTube comments. But I can say, with complete confidence, that I cannot recall reading anything so completely fucking stupid as that paragraph and its spew of cliches. There is not, and never has been a right to be free of scorn or ridicule or chastisement in response to our speech. In fact, the prospect of scorn and ridicule and chastisement is the only reason America has free speech — because we believe that ignorant or offensive speech is better handled by the marketplace of ideas than by government intrusion. Nothing in law or in history supports Rocker's imagined "right." Only weaklings, cowards, and fools seek protection from criticism of their speech. Yet this moronic trope — this idea that critical speech is censorship, and that the assholes of the world have some sort of protected right not be to called assholes — persists. It persists because of sub-normals like John Rocker. Thanks, John.

It's still linking to her comment for me, but if it's not working for you, hers is the 5th comment down.

My ghostery blocker was blocking comments widgets among other things. I still feel bad for giving that article views tho.

I went through some things online and in work. I got my family and lawyers involved and crap stopped ASAP. But most people don't ultimately have an uber wealthy powerhouse to fall back on. that said, I still live impoverished and refuse a damned dime.

It's a perfect quote, because it's an invitation to be unequivocally diametrically opposed.

I deny that imagined right.
I scorn it.
It's ridiculous.
And ... I don't agree with it.

Did I miss anything?

I think that piece of shit Weev should be placed on a bed of sticks, poured on with gasoline and lit on fire. Preferably out in the open so the fumes don't kill him. Let him be an object lesson to all bullies everywhere. At least that's my gut reaction. A part of me wants to go nuclear on all the trolls viciously harassing women on the internet.

It is not free speech at all. Attacking, relentlessly harassing and deliberately terrorizing someone on the internet is not, and should not be protected speech. Those who engage in such behavior should be punished as harshly as the law allows. A part of me would like death by funeral pyre, but even I know that is extreme and well beyond the scope of the severity of the crime.

I would be content with 25 years (at least) in prison, however.

That is a joke that made me laugh out loud. If someone passed me by while I was laughing they'd have no idea why.

I really hate bullies, though. Burning them to death is definitely way too extreme, but they are engaging in terrible harassment that should be punished with time in prison. If done in person, they'd have restraining orders placed on them. Online interaction is no different.

Damn, I meant to post that here.

A follow-up:

Wikipedia: "Moore eventually faced numerous lawsuits. He was stabbed by a woman who had been featured on the site and subjected to an FBI investigation."

Village Voice: In July, a San Francisco–area woman stabbed the Sacramento native in the shoulder with a pen, a wound that required surgery and left a caterpillar-size scar.

Why is it Anonymous that seems to come to the rescue so often while the authorities sit around with their thumbs in their asses and blame the victims?

Ensign Steve 11-23-2013 02:38 PM

Re: People need to start getting the fuck off my internet

Because Anonymous has talent and skillz and the authorities are fucking clueless and more concerned with covering their own asses than helping people. I say this with big time insider's perspective!

LadyShea 11-23-2013 02:44 PM

Re: People need to start getting the fuck off my internet

I wish I had the skillz to help. Because it seems like some asshole coming to the attention of Anonymous leads to positive outcomes for the victims.

I'm beginning to sense a pattern here, something about what the authorities are fixated on.
