I'm a thread killing sumbitch.

What? Am I invisible? Do I not amuse or entertain you? Do you wish I'd go away? Do tell.

Re: I'm a thread killing sumbitch.

I hate to post and run, but I'm just on break from the Owasso Marching Band competition, came home to feed the horsies, post and run, then back I go, Roxy's band made the finals.

Congratulations, Roxy! Warren, you crazy.

Have you considered the fact that what you write is so well written that I read it and think, I wish I could have said it so well. You have responded in a sensitive and thoughtful way to things I have written. What more could I ask for?

I think everyone probably feels that way from time to time. I know I do anyway.

Yeah, I've already killed my share of threads around here.

I wonder if I can be the one who kills this one... :computer::killpc:

Warren I feel the same way often. Especially when certain people keep ragging me about my verbal diarrhea :yup:

My solution is just to find something else of interest and keep posting until I feel loved again. Don't worry about it, no-ones suddenly gone off you. You've probably just had the misfortune lately of posting on topics where the general interest was dying already.

I certainly find your posts interesting and articulate.

Re: I'm a thread killing sumbitch.

:fuming: damn line just dropped

Farren, you don't have verbal diarrhea, you have polyloquacity ... hypertaxia ... or something cool like that. :D

Warren, know the feeling - I've also had posts overlooked - and I've overlooked some myself (I only know because I discover them days later). Unaccountable, unless we can blame it on the much-maligned treatment of unread flags in vB software.

Anyway, I'll be the one to kill this thread.

Good God, Joe, you're obsessed with the unread marks! Let it go, man, before it eats you up inside.

<insert obligatory claim of thread-killing here>

Re: I'm a thread killing sumbitch.

I used to think that way. I must have...maybe a 100?...threads that ended abruptly. Now when this happens, I flip a coin. Heads=I left 'em flabbergasted. Tails=I left 'em flabbergasted... :D

Personally, I've gotten used to it. If you make it to the Gathering warrenly, look for the nearly invisible guys sitting by themselves in the corner. That'll be me and JoeP and wade-w. I'll have a box of Imodium for Farren...just in case... :D

Of course I'm obsessed. No need to let it go. I have a master plan. :drevil:

The smilie search project was only a diversion. :muahaha:

Anyway, this thread is dead.

That never occurred to me at all. I think I'm such a hack and a ham sometimes.

SHS band came in 9th out of 10 finalists. Damn. They put on a good show. This is their first year using much in the way of props. The Band Boosters Club built a house and fence rails to simulate the "Home on the Range", which was the theme. They played music from the Disney cartoon feature of the same name, finishing off with a piece that contained the theme from the Magnificent Seven, with a bit of Aaron Copeland thrown in for good measure. They did well.

The big winner for the night was Broken Arrow... as usual. Broken Arrow High School has over 5000 students. Compare that to Sapulpa's <1200. The BAHS competition band is an elite squad composed of the best of the best. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't recruit from outside their district, I know they do for football. In one case, alumni bought a house and paid the moving expenses for a football star's single mom to get them to move into the district. Scandalous! But, it's reality in Oklahoma.

Warren, I feel ya man. I feel like the thread killingest person around sometimes. Sigh. At least I know I am not the only one. ;)

That sounds great to me. I can't believe how complex these kinds of productions have to be in order to make the grade. If fence rails and houses get you 9th place, what in the hell did the Broken Arrow bastards (we hates them, yessss) do?

Hey, incidentally, does anybody ever actually do the stuff from the musical Oklahoma in Oklahoma, or is that just too banal even for y'all?

I am something of a martini purist.

I think pink martinis might just be a mortal sin and makes god cry.

Yes. But, here in Oklahoma, they were so impressed with that movie, they named a town after every character in it.

You really can't do that. It's not dead until I say it's dead.*

*I said this exact thing to my boss once after he told me an issue was dead. It wasn't dead either. I was right, the company was wrong. I won in the end. Now all shift workers at that company get paid for all of their vacation hours. I can be quite persistent when I am absolutely 100% positive I am right.

Dude, when you're drinking them with Aspen Mama, you won't care if they are pink, blue, purple or Prestone anti-freeze yellow-green.

AspenMama, I'll come back again... someday.

I don't even remember. I do remember thinking at the time of their performance, they were way better than any other band there. The point totals showed it too. The difference between 10th place and 4th place was only 8 or 9 points. Third place Mustang High School (near OKC) scored something like 6 points above 4th. Second place Union High School (another school like Broken Arrow and right next door to them, 3000 strong and recruits from out of district), with their flag corps/color guard dressed up like Vegas showgirls, scored about 8 points above Mustang. Broken Arrow scored 9 points higher than Union. They were that good. Yes, we hatesssss them, we do.

Mustang's program was cool too. They had their flag corps wearing all black with a black watchcap, like burglars. The theme was "Catch Me if You Can". The last song they played was the intro music for the movie of the same name. It was cool.

One band that didn't even make the cut to the finals, Coweta (another character in Star Wars Phantom Menace, I think) had a really good small band program that featured four Beethoven numbers. Beethoven in marching band? It worked. Beethoven's 5th wove it all together, with Fur Elise, Moonlight Sonata and Pathetique thrown in. Poor Coweta, they had fewer members in their band than Broken Arrow has flaggettes (flag corps) and no props. However their sound was great and they did win their division, 3A schools, they just didn't make the finals.

Yea, last year one band did. They all play the song Oklahoma before football games right after The Star Spangled Banner. It is the state song after all. Less than five miles from my house is an outdoor theater, Discoveryland, that puts on the musical Oklahoma every other day all summer long, alternating with Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
