Quitting quitter quits party that campaigned for quitting: a UKIP thread
Ukip's only MP Douglas Carswell quits party | Politics | The Guardian
He quit the Conservative Party to join UKIP, now quits UKIP to be an independent. He has a point. Now that UKIP has "won" - in achieving its goal, if not in being successful in power which is the actual point of a political party - there's no point in UKIP. The real story of course is all the internal factions in the "party". Is it reassuring that far right (and far left) parties seem to squabble a lot? Or is that a factor in pushing the Conservatives to adopt their positions rather than oppose them? |
