Welcome! I'm currently in the Seattle area, but I'm a horrible exurbanite and an engineer.

Hi specious, thanks for the welcome. An engineer.... Architectural by any chance? You say you're currently in Seattle. I've had the same apartment here for almost forty years now so I may be just a bit biased but.... How do you like it?

Software - I'm currently working at a big company in the Redmond area--you know the one, although that's a recent development.

Yes, last summer, I moved from Illinois to Washington primarily due to my wife wanting a both change of scenery and a better job opportunity. They're very different places, both in geography and mindset. We went to the musical playing at the 5th Ave Theater yesterday, and the diversity of people there vs. a show in Chicago is telling - both in the audience and the cast of the show.

I'm liking it here, but I haven't had a lot of opportunity to experience it as much as I'd like, as I was working from last summer.

I've never been to Seattle, but I have an open invitation from a first-cousin to come visit. Would you recommend a flatlander from the middle of America come visit.

Oh, and welcome to :ff:

Ah yes, Livius Drusis (unless I have you confused with another Livius Drusis). I Haven't seen you since the Romans invaded Brittany.... AD 78 or so wasn't it? Are you still a Druid? Actually (with minor variations), it's Aemilus Lorentius Caulus (Emile L. Cole). Just having a bit of fun there.... but then.... One never really knows does one?

Thanks for the welcome.

Hey specious....

Thanks, and welcome to the great Northwest, it's a beautiful, largely unspoiled natural environment (just stay away from the Washington coast, there seems to be a bit of a problem).

I think I do.... it's that Mega Corporation that lied to everyone about protecting their privacy (and would still be lying if not for Edward Snowden) while it was really secretly turning over all the information it had (and likely still is) as a paid minion of the illegal NSA spying program, the company that drains the economy by piling up huge corporate profits in off shore accounts to avoid paying taxes and maximizes profits by retailing products produced by slave labor in Shenzhen China where they have to put nets around the tops of the buildings to keep slaves from jumping off.... That one? Don't know how long you're planning on working there, but if you see them starting to post armed guards or installing nets around the tops of the buildings.... Run!

Right, I imagine Seattle's pretty low key compared to some place like Chicago.

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome.

Welcome and happy tinkering!

:melp: (:larrow: This is a random smilie. If you can work out how to add random smilies, and why they are important, you will have grokked :ff:.)

Cool home made avatar! Yeah, not much resemblance there. Do you still do art? What sorts of art are you into?

Thanks.... I like all the Old Masters, and no, I don't draw much anymore (my style was a bit hard on the eyes). Here's the last one I did about twenty five years ago (the only one I have left actually, I sold or gave away the rest). The Temple is a Pen and Ink drawing done with a Rapidograph drafting pen that draws a line about the width of a human hair. About 20x24 inches. All freehand (no measurements or preliminary sketch), loosely modeled on a ruined Roman style temple in Turkey I saw a picture of once. The technique is stippling (dots). It took several hundred hours.... and about six ounces of good bud!

Holy balls! What an exceptional talent you have to be able to do something so architectural freehand, and in poitillist style, no less. I'm a little crushed that I can't commission an original Aemilius of my own.
