Now, assuming that's right what could the other depression word be.
A depression can be a sort of (usually shallow) dent or concavity.
In meteorology a depression is a name for a low pressure system (cyclone) - these do tend to correlate with electrical storms and therefore thunder - but that seems a stretch.
In terms of mental state, depression is associated with listlessness, apathy (my guess above) and feelings of hopelessness. I suppose depressions do hurt in a sense, so maybe 'hurt' would be my second guess - but I am not very confident with it.
