Our younger cat had an intestinal blockage which the vet didn't see at first: a shoelace (yummy! I must eat that!) caught at the stomach and trailing into the intestine. In fact, if I recall correctly, they didn't make out anything on the X-ray and only discovered it through laparoscopy (and removed it at the same time).

She's more prone to eat plastic and foam, which should show up in imaging, so we're still betting on an infection. Mrs. Reasons happens to be home today, so it was up to her to decide how she wants to handle it.
