Yup, while some companies have tried to add rights grabs into their contracts they’re almost always challenged, and most only own the rights as required to host and reproduce the content on their server.
While the harsh reality is that whoever has the most money generally wins, courts have been reasonably adamant that the only way to automatically sign over copyright of a work is to produce the work while on the clock or otherwise exclusively employed, like say, by Disney. Otherwise in the US the copyright of works like writing, art, non AI generated memes, belongs solely to the creator unless otherwise signed over with some form of remittance changing hands.
