Except that I'm not sure that they do. (not being familiar with those specific examples, I can't say for sure, but in general...) It seems like the cops and judges and politicians and such have this vague idea that hacking and pirating are tantamount to terrorism, without needing to have any technical expertise or even a working definition of any of those words. So they just apply this nebulous blanket umbrella of policy that essentially makes 99% of technology applications illegal, and then pick and choose where to apply it. Bradley Manning? Terrorist! Sony? Obviously just trying to protect themselves from pirates.
Edit: JSTOR and Bradley Manning are the same example, aren't they? Shut up, I know what I'm talking about!!
