Conspiracy charge? Why were they only charged with conspiracy to prevent federal workers from performing their jobs? Whether or not that is what the occupiers intended, that is what happened.
That they did not intend to disrupt operations is a fucking lie. Wasn't part of their defense an obscure (and likely misinterpreted) notion that if they occupied the land long enough control would revert to them? That seems to be predicated on the fact that the Federal Government is not making use of the land. If they allowed Federal employees, i.e. agents of the Federal Government, onto the premise the Federal Government IS making use of the land. Hence it was critical to their goals that they kept Federal employees off the refuge.
The Federal prosecutors appear to have fucked this up by not charging them correctly.
