Thanks. I didn't see that button, but I just copy-and-pasted the (reasonably short) URL displayed at the top of my browser. I didn't put any {URL} tags around it as normally does that automatically. But when the post appeared it was one of those mega-long things that looks as though an entire webpage has been squeezed into the URL - and it semi-crashed the page so that there was no {edit} button available. I had to do the trick where you get a template edit URL and then patch in the post number to fix it.

Maybe it's something to do with whatever it is on that parses the URL and its associated page, so that it can turn a URL into a headline? I don't want to repeat the experiment now and lock the thread up though.
