So you did get access to the secret forums!
Tapatalk does seem fixated on including images everywhere, even if they're from way back in the thread or from a different part of the forum. I think you can turn it off and I think I've done it and I think it was like this:
home screen > account > Settings
Scroll to topic & thread - uncheck photo preview
"I think" because tapatalk is anti-intuitive and probably keeps changing things.
