I'm sure there are tales of horror about meeting people on the internet, but my own experience meeting people in person that I've met online has been entirely positive. I've met some Infidels and Heathens, some of whom are also FFers. I've met up with people that ride the same kind of motorcycle I do from all over the place after first meeting them on the internet. It's all been good.
Also, my department's computer guru in Salt Lake City met his wife on the internet. As far as I know, they're still together after 10 years.
A female security guard in our Salt Lake City office met a guy online, quit her job and moved halfway across the country to live with him. As far as I know, that worked out quite well too.
