Going to into the article, I was not entirely sure which causality direction they were going to go for. "Fundies beat up their kids causing brain damage" wouldn't have surprised me.

Religious beliefs can be thought of as socially transmitted mental representations that consist of supernatural events and entities assumed to be real.
Not the first formulation I'd have expected. Not wrong, but I wonder how many committee edits that went through.

cognitive flexibility and open mindedness present a challenge for fundamentalists.
