Last night, I walked out the front door and there was a fox right there, a few feet away, eating something. It was not at all bothered by me being there, so I just sat and watched it for five or ten minutes as it ate. Then, after it was done, it looked up at me, like, "You got anything else?" and I was like, "Naw," so it just casually sauntered off.
I have not figured out what it was eating. It was crunchy whatever it was, but I'd think if it were one of the cottontails that live in the yard, there'd be some kind of evidence. I see kill sites all the time, and they can be pretty dramatic looking, but there's nothing. The only other thing I can think of is that I dropped a piece of chicken on the floor several days ago and threw it out into the yard for crows or coyotes or whatever, but I thought that was long gone.
