Re: Why the Mainstream Media Really Sucks
It is a bit of a paradox that the democratization of journalism through, let's call it net news, has degraded traditional pay-for-service journalism. I haven't had a news subscription in years. I suspect I'm not alone in that.
Surely news outlets had partisan or philosophical slants well before the internet was ever dreamt of, but it appears to me the collapse of revenue streams at the older organizations has amplified that tendency. As we become more polarized our selectivity for our own political leanings becomes a feedback loop. The inverse of that is when the quest for objectivity turns itself inside out and becomes slavery to neutrality. Hello, President Trump!
I do occasionally contribute to blogs or net based news feeds. None of them are the big names of decades past.
