The Girl Scouts have always been more progressive than the Boy Scouts

Well, of course I am opposed to anyone being made to feel welcome ever, anywhere, but, at the same time, I own extensive stock in a porcelain company, so I guess I hope that they have to build special restrooms for him in all the special Girl Scout buildings you see all over the place.

The WNBA doesn't have the goal of supporting and enriching children's lives through positive associations and activities.
They have a goal of offering a framework within which professional women athletes can play basketball.
However, should you undergo gender reassignment, I think you should be allowed to play.

Um, no. Bobby is a transgendered child. The family was given incorrect information regarding the Girl Scout's policy when they attempted to register. The troop leader was not aware of this when she made those statements and has since been corrected.
Quote:
The story of little Bobby Montoya came to light earlier this week, when his mom told a Denver TV station that Bobby's request to join his older sister in the venerable all-girl organization was denied.
“I said, ‘Well, what’s the big deal,'” Bobby’s mother, Felisha Archuleta, told KUSA. “She said, ‘It doesn’t matter how he looks. He has boy parts, and he can’t be in Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts don’t allow that [and] I don’t want to be in trouble by parents or my supervisor.'"
But the local troop leader was apparently unaware of current policies within the organization. The Girl Scouts of Colorado released a statement this week stating that they are an “inclusive organization” and that little Bobby will be allowed to join if he wants to.
“We accept all girls in kindergarten through 12th grade as members. If a child identifies as a girl and the child's family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout,” according to the statement.
|
Fox
So it has nothing to do with the child's feelings and everything to do with having a policy in place that was not followed by the local representative.
Gah! Could you even imagine if an organization designed to support and socialize young children actually listened to their feelings and crap?! Now THAT would be ridiculous!

Oh damn. This kid is brilleant! BRILLEANT I SAY. Why go out in the woods and play with boys all weekend when he can stay home, eat cookies and be surrounded by girls? It's like that guy who discovered taking Home Ec was the best move ever.

Re: what was your reaction to the girl scouts welcoming a boy?
We had boys who'd tag along on our Girl Scout troop's camping trips, just because the we were better than the Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts would just sit around fucking around with pocketknives and tying knots in someone's living room or something. We'd go out on extensive wilderness camping trips, take lifeguarding and CPR training (I passed the full test when I was ten or eleven and got a badge, but was too young to be officially certified, IIRC), build fires and shelters, all that. Sometimes we even fucked around with pocketknives and tied knots.
The Girl Scouts should definitely be allowing any age-qualified child who identifies as a girl to join; and I'd even be OK with them having some kind of auxiliary boy members or something, so long as the mission and purpose of the Girl Scouts didn't change.

Re: what was your reaction to the girl scouts welcoming a boy?
I wish inclusive organizations like Campfire Kids existed everywhere, because there is nothing for Kiddo in my area Like maybe just "Kid Scouts" instead of Girl Scouts.
The BSA is a lost cause, IMO, they will not become reasonable as an organization anytime soon.

Re: what was your reaction to the girl scouts welcoming a boy?
LOL that article I linked has some funny stupid buried at the bottom:
Quote:
Dr. Keith Ablow, a psychiatrist and part of Fox News' Medical A-Team -- while prefacing himself by saying, "I know a lot of experts will disagree with me" -- cautioned the Girl Scouts against welcoming boys who present themselves as girls until more data is available on any potential harm it could do.
“On the face of it, it seems to be expecting far too much psychologically of young girls to ignore the anatomy of a boy and act as though he is a girl," Ablow said. "The girls are just developing comfort with their own bodies, after all.”
|
Because, you know, the time honored tradition of Vagina Comparison Time will have to be abandoned if this happens. Memories!
