So ... which Roman Numerals do we have smilies for? In the style of :M:

, that is not counting the excellent-but-different :ccat:

letters.

A keyword search for 'roman' only turns up :lbar:

A search for 'bar' also turns up :vbar:

and

... I humbly propose that 'roman' be added as an extra keyword.

A search for 'numeral' turns up only :lbar:

(and cat numerals).

Via the time-honoured method of guessing we only have :M:

of the basic non-over-barred numerals.

FIAT:

Let and be created forthwith.
Let :I: :Vnum: (because is already in use) :X: :L: :C: :D: be duly created.
Let them all be in the 'FF Style' category, naturally.
Let the keywords 'roman' 'number' 'numeral' and 'digit' be added to all of them before anyone discovers the shameful incompleteness.

Also JoeP's proposed format clashes with some existing smilies, notably

, so we need something more consistent.

How about using RN at the start of each smileytext (for 'Roman Numeral'), so we'd end up with:

:RNI: :RNV: :RNX: :RNL: :RNC: :RND: :RNM: :RNVbar: :RNXbar: :RNLbar: :RNCbar: :RNDbar: :RNMbar:

And we still don't know how we're going to cope once liv gets to four million posts, so we should consider the 'gate' or 'double bar' numerals when coming up with a standard consistent format.

:ibar: was only in the placeholder box for excessive completeness. You'll notice it's not in the required actions box.

Technically, you can have both :D and :D: in the hoard: if :D: is first in the platonic ordering of the smilies table, it will match :D: and still allow :D to be matched if there isn't a : afterwards.

Well ya. After 4500 or so, my need to hoard has slowed down. That's not to say I've stopped. Obviously I continue to make new ones and upload ones that tickle my fancy, as the New Arrivals thread attests to.

I'm not, however, particularly interested in making a dozen Roman numeral smilies. I don't see the point. :boh:

eta I did add the suggested keywords, though, to retroactively cover my shame.

Did you use a font for the letters and ifsowhichone? Or did you just dot each pixel in place?
