I don't want a pickle,
I just want to ride my motorcikle.
And I don't want a tickle,
I'd rather ride my motorcickle.
And I don't want to die,
I just want to ride my motorcy............cle.

dragar, I'm sorry you had to leave your beloved Scotland and your chosen field but congratulations on your new job. And hopefully everything will pick up and you can slide back into cosmology.

How are you feeling these days?

Suffering has a way of draining the happy out of people. How's the MG treating you?

Actually I've been fine, no attacks in a couple of years now, could be in remission. I have an appointment with the MG specialist on May 3rd.

Any one of those things would have been tough enough, but all piled on top of each other like that?
You have some serious strength, lady.
I am glad to see you back.

Welcome back, fancy-gams!
Ew, sciatica seriously sucks. I had it off and on for a good decade, but then suddenly it just decided to bugger off. Hopefully it will leave you alone sometime soon, too.

Oh, I missed this post. Sorry Deadlokd, and thanks for the kind words.
At this point, even if the economy recovers in a year ( ) my time as a cosmologist is pretty much at an end. Without continued experience as a researcher in the field, there is no chance of ever getting a stable job (professor with tenure). The odds are not in your favour if you go from good postdoc to good postdoc, churning out papers as you go. The odds are slim-to-none if you take multiple year gaps in industry. And I don't want to be doing the postdoc lifestyle at 45.
Scotland, on the other hand, is not entirely out of reach.

I'm glad it's working out for you. My dad got both of his done in the last year and a half. He's back to walking 3-5 miles per day again. We don't know where he is.
I am soon to get my right knee "scoped" due to having a torn meniscus. I am scheduled for an MRI this Tuesday.
