I love this house. It's a historic Cape Cod, beautifully restored, secluded without being isolated, a great size -- compact but not crowded -- on a huge lot (9.31 acres). There's even an adorable matching little fort type thing perched over the pond. At $300,000 it's incredibly affordable, not often the case in Connecticut. It's also just a short jaunt down the road from where my parents live.
{snip pics}
We just got back from seeing this house. We drove by and hung around like stalkers oohing and aahing at it. It looks even better in person than it does in pictures. It's in the middle of the woods but still just a mile or so from the main cross streets of East Hampton where my parents got married in the Congregationalist church. There's a creek that runs along the edge of the property which my parents, still in recovery from their week of no power thanks to Irene, immediately thought of as a good source of water in an emergency.
Yes and yes. It's Indian Summer to the extreme. Yesterday it was 85! Bright sun, cool breezes, some foliage but not much because the cold has been so late in coming that peak foliage isn't expected for another 10 days or so. We've been having lunch outside every day and taking little driving trips around the area. Tomorrow we're going to take a trip on the oldest ferry boat still running in Connecticut.
Laurent House in Rockford, Illinois, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Kenneth Laurent, a World War II veteran who was wounded in action and confined to a wheelchair. Wright designed it in an oval shape with wide curving hallways and rooms so it's entirely wheelchair accessible. All the furnishings and built-ins were custom-built by Wright.
The Laurents have lived there since it was built 59 years ago and have kept it in immaculate condition. They're moving to a retirement community, however, so they have to sell the house. If it doesn't sell soon, it will be put up for auction on December 15. The current price is $875,000. The auction minimum bid will be something less than half a million.
Deluxe Adirondack log cabin on 50+ acres, complete with airstrip, hangar, and a decommissioned Intercontinental Ballistic Missile silo. The developers cleaned out the silo (it was full of water) but didn't do anything stupid like convert it into condos, although they do suggest that as a possible use for buyers. The launch control center they made into a man cave. It's the fucking bomb yo, if you'll pardon the term.
I am experiencing a wanderlust attack, so have been looking at job openings with hubby's company (which is multinational and 185 years old). I have never heard of some of the towns and stuff where the jobs are, so check out real estate rentals in the areas, just for fun.
Today I saw a 5 bedroom guest house in the town center being rented as a single family home, and now I can't find it. But, it's in Galashiels Scotland, which I never heard of until today.
Sorry, I wish I had porn to share, but all I have is this bad trapped feeling
Not much in the way of pictures, but it is the house from American Horror Story. No word on whether ghosts are included in the price.

Dude, huge FLW mansion in Chicago. It was built in 1897 and has 7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 4 fireplaces and 33 classic Prairie style stained glass windows. On sale for $2.5 million.
Ok, so this isn't on the grand scale of some of these porntastic homes, but it's the kind of real estate porn that Sou likes...
I don't think it's the visual so much as the description that turns her on though...

This sweet 3 bed/ 1 ½ bath country home has undergone many updates and improvements since it was moved to this 4.1 acre lot in popular Emyvale ... addition of woodstove to off-set heating bills ...
And the real sex appeal for Sou:

Outside delights include a green house, fenced chicken coop, fruit trees, perennial gardens, vegetable garden, large woodlot, the beginnings of a pond, a fire pit, and meadowland acres for livestock.
Of course the price, $158,800 CAD, is another big turn on
You guys, Dick Clark is selling the Flintstones house for $3.5 million. I have no idea if it was intentionally modeled on the cartoon house, but it looks exactly like it. It's on a hilltop in Malibu with ocean views and it's the fucking hotness. I love cave houses automatically, but this one is something special.

My neighborhood is doing its home tour and someone put together a youtube peek at the houses for this year. It is a collection of gorgeous old homes, a new green home, and a home that has been a recent success story of renovation.
The house at :45 sec was an absolute wreck a year ago. Caving in roof, plywood for doors and windows, it had been subdivided into a duplex and left abandoned by a land lord for over four years as an eyesore. Contra said a hundred times that they would have to condemn it and tear it down. It and the property next door were both bought and saved by families that really did an amazing job. They are two of the prettiest houses on the block now.
Gehry's symphonies can get a little pitchy, dog. I like quite a few of the ones in that gallery, though, like the Geisel library and the ziggurat. Come on! It's a ziggurat! That shit has been cool for 6000 years.
I like the mint. It rings a note of nostalgia for me. I wish I could stop on the bridges from NJ to Philly and take photos. Some of the early and mid industrial architecture is quite striking, ranging from elegant grandeur to downright steam punk in it's arcane, rusty complexity.
