Miisa has a tick-removal tool. Something based on squeezing the tick's mouthparts and twisting.

All of the animals have fleas again. They're all wearing flea collars, and they all got flea baths this weekend. We need to spray the house and wash all the animals again this weekend.

Have you considered the back-of-the-neck medications such as Sock recommends (and oh, I agree of course)?

Actually, the meds I'm talking about are taken orally, in the form of chews, just like the heartworm preventative -- in fact, some combine flea/tick and heartworm together, so you don't need to keep track of them separately.

For cats, where my experience is greater, squishing something on the back of animal's neck is soooooooo much easier than getting them to swallow something.

Voltron Chickenbunny (all will love her and despair) likes the chews; they're flavored, and different enough from her normal food that she thinks she's getting away with something. Your non-pug mileage may differ.

My veterinarian (who also, you know, lives with me) uses Bravecto chews and they work well, though one dog is deeply suspicious of all things medicinal and has to have it shoved down his throat. In the past we have also used the topical ones - they seem to work fine too, but can be kinda icky for a couple of days until they get worked through the fur.

You will be fighting the hatch cycle. Vacuum the living shit out of all your rugs and carpets. Do a couple of passes, then do it again a couple hours later. Also vacuum the edges between the rug and the floor, and in the kitchen along the bottom of the cabinets. Vacuum under furniture cushions, etc. Wash all washable things in hot water.

Mrs. Reasons got some pills for the cat and chews for the dogs - these were not long acting, they kill off the fleas on the animal. She also got the spray, which I liberally applied everywhere the animals hang out.

I don't have any problem with giving pills to the cats. They're relatively chill about it, and I make a point of making it quick and authoritative. One was even purring a few moments after I jammed a pill down her throat and held her head until I was sure she swallowed.

I am impressed with cat pill-giving. Ours will take a teeeeeeeny tiny little half pill if it is well hidden inside a ball of cream cheese. Otherwise it will end in tears.

Speaking of VC (awlhad), I called the vet to schedule her usual spa treatment (bath, brush, toenails, buttglands), and the nurse (?) started gushing with some "OMG this pug is immortal, incredible" sorta shit. She's only 12ish (estimated 2 yrs when we adopted), and petite & slender by pug standards (i.e, yes she's shaped like a pear, but she doesn't have that pug-bloat a lot of them get from overfeeding, and overall she's smaller than average). So for fucksake, I'm getting at least 2 more years out of this snorty little 4-footed bread loaf. Li'l Puppet has to get through high school and at least start college before she's allowed to kick off, and Ima kick God's big fat omniass if she doesn't.

We have this ridiculous little 8 pound poodle staying with us, and he has figured out that I am a butt scritcher. So whenever he sees me, he runs up, turns around, and backs that booty up like, "Yeah, I know what you like."

So I mentioned in another thread that Flossy had a growth the vet sent off for a biopsy, and it is cancer, and there's not much we can do about it. The vet can't give an estimate, but she's feeling good right now.

Since we've been isolating and everyone's home all the time, she's been pretty happy, so that's good.

1. Cats can jump.
2. And land on all fours.
3. Fences are just suggestions.

So, Ms. Chickenbunny is not doing so well. Her appetite fell off, then it got worse and she couldn't keep most of her food down. Bloodwork came back today, and her liver and pancreas enzymes are way too high. Today she's getting IV fluids and X-rays, so we'll know more -- possibly more than I want to know. :(

Li'l Puppet doesn't even know the extent of it, but she flat-out asked me if she'd be okay, and I had to say that I don't know and can't promise she will, at this age. She won't take it well no matter when it happens, but I am sincerely hoping we can get through this next month. At least until she can actually see her friends in person again. I was hoping for another year+, to get through the high school years, but that now looks less likely.

ETA: After IV fluids, some medications, etc., she's obviously feeling better, and while she still wouldn't touch the vet's food, she enthusiastically chowed down on the small portion of Fresh Pet that I gave her. I think I may have to start cooking for her, as I don't fully trust the Fresh Pet, but do need her to actually freaking eat.

An initial exam, bloodwork, subcutaneous fluids, injections ... then 3 days of IV fluid treatment and other injections, plus X-ray ... :spend:

She is definitely doing better, but her appetite is still low. But she's now in even more of an explorer phase, spelunking under beds, trying to get into boxes within reach, etc. Maybe I should hide some food in an odd corner and see if she eats it just 'cause she thinks she's getting away with something.
