Default Personal Watermelons

Anyone tried these mini delights? Sweet, seedless personal size watermelons - about the size of a canteloupe. I picked up a couple at the market Saturday :yup: If all else fails they will look good in my bra

Looks very...well delightful. if they hit the local grocery store, I'll definitely be lining up for a couple of those mouth watering fruits.

Is it just this screen or are the contents orange? The texture also seems more smooth than the usual granulated watermelon. I love the idea of it, though.

Mmmm... watermelon... :homdrool:

In one of my recent fruit cravings (as Jessica will attest), I could probably wolf down an ordinary-sized one by myself, so I reject the quaint notion of a "personal size" watermelon.

Looks sweet, though. I bet it'd taste great with some pineapple.

I bought a couple last summer and they were yummy. However, IIRC, the price is a bit steep, IMO, for a watermelon. I also noticed the price would go up near a holiday weekend.

Cool. I love watermelon but never buy it because 1. It's too big and 2. I hate having to navigate around seeds. These look awesome. :yup:

I'll definitely say that to Jessica when we go melon-shopping. At least.

Anyone ever had "Moon and Stars" watermelons? Them's good eatin!

They get their name because the rind is so dark green that it can look almost black, but it has yellow spots -- most are small ("stars") and one or two are quite large ("moon").

When I was a kid, an old farmer who lived nearby grew them. They were, in my opinion, far better than any other variety of watermelon I've tried. But they don't ship well, so nobody grows them commercially, and only a few people who've passed down the seeds from generation to generation still grow them at all. Like a lot of "old-timey" fruit and vegetable varieties, they're much better than most commercially-available varieties, but also much harder to find, as fewer and fewer people grow them.

Someday, I fully intend to beg, borrow, or steal some seeds from some old 3rd-generation farmer and start my own "moon and stars" patch.

Cheers,

Michael
