Neat! I want to see this.
We finally watched Shutter Island over the weekend. I liked it a lot, despite having already been spoiled for almost the entire plot.

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
I finally got to finish watching Watchmen. Tried to see it with the wife on On Demand, but shortly after the opening credits she told me, "I don't think I'm going to like this." Now that I've seen the whole thing, I think she was right. But I liked it well enough. I never read the comic (or graphic novel, or whatever you geeks call it), but I did hear/read all sorts of stuff about it. I thought it was quite an achievement, and it definitely stuck in my head for a couple days. I don't feel all gushy about it, though. More like something I'm glad I saw once but am not in a hurry to see again.
Yesterday we went to see Despicable Me. I expected it to be funny and entertaining while forgettable, like a DreamWorks film -- but it actually exceeded my expectations. I'd rank it alongside some of the better Pixar films. It has the usual adult-pleasing in-jokes alongside kid-pleasing humor, but the two facets of the humor fit together much more seamlessly than the average modern* CGI film. In other words, my kid and I were both entertained without her asking a lot of questions about why I was laughing at different lines than she was.
*ETA: as opposed to the average classic CGI film. I don't know why I wrote "modern CGI." But it's funny enough that I won't edit it.

YES YES YES! I saw that when it was in theatres here and thought it fantastic... definitely see it if you can!

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
Saw "Inception" day before yesterday and give it a solid "A". The only points off for me were action-ey segments being a bit too long and a little too much time spent on John Wu style slo-mo's (not to get rid of them but maybe shorten them). I think I might be impartially partial to the subject because of my own vivid and bizzare dream life, but I thought it was well executed, entertaining and except for the aforementioned blips, not overly long.

Inception
I am about to say something that I very very rarely say: this movie completely lives up to every last bit of the hype. Definitely worth a full price ticket.
The only negative I can think of is that the middle section gets a bit drawn out and expositiony.

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
Well, I followed BortherMan's recommendation and saw that Wolverine movie last night. It was on HBO, so I figured what the hell. I thought it was pretty mediocre, and I don't know what BortherMan thought was so awesome about it. Meh, no accounting for taste, I suppose.
Nothing about it really bothered me except the pointless beginning. Who was their father, and why were we supposed to give a shit, again? Some other dude whom we also aren't given any reason to give a shit about raised them as their own -- or maybe he just raised the younger one? What? The whole sequence didn't make a lick of fucking sense.
The rest of it was just C-grade superhero shit. Lots of blurry fight sequences, wire-fu, walking slowly away from explosions, yadda yadda. It was entertaining enough for what it was. Not quite as bad as I expected, but by no means good.
I really need to stop listening to BortherMan's recommendations.

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
I finally saw Stick It which I have been wanting to see forever but never got around to. I really liked it. It was different than what I was expecting (for some reason I thought it would be like Bring It On but with gymnasts), but it was still really good. Totally hilarious and with lots of great gymnastics sequences.
I have Wolverine on the DVR but I haven't watched it all the way through yet. I promise I'll get to it, BrotherMan! Quit hounding me!

It's even funnier when you know the gymnastics world is kinda like that. It's one of my pick-me-up movies.
And Steve, Haley's body double was Isabelle Severino, if you'd like to look her up. Best gymnast France has ever produced.

A documentary from the History Channel, "Walt Disney World".
I thought Disneyland was built after I was born, not before. The amusement park gates opened to the public in 1954. Long live the Disney empire!
My bucket list does include a trip to Florida to visit the Epcot Center and Disney World.

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
I watched a couple movies on the cable over the weekend.
Wolverine. I loved it! WTF is wrong with you people? That movie was the shit. I love Wolverine. I liked that he did the procedure willingly (especially after three or so movies of "What did those horrible people do to meeee??!!!" angst). I loved Gambit. I loved all the 'splosions and the walking away from slowly or driving the motorcycle away from quickly. The only thing I didn't like were the bone claws, and I was all *squick* until he finally went *snikt*.
Also RockNRolla - excellent.
Then some stuff I had already seen like Far and Away and the sixth Harry Potter. Probably some other stuff too but I forget.

When is RocknRolla 2 coming out? I see talk of it, I see that it's been written, but nothing on IMDb.

I also reiterate the endorsement for Inception.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt was sexy as he ran up the walls and ceilings.

Inception was fantastic.
I think it would be a fun setting for an RPG.

There isn't a "Mediocre, Overhyped Movies" thread, so I'll post in here that I've seen Inception.

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
Just watched Big Fan with Patton Oswalt and directed by Robert Siegel (who wrote The Wrestler). I wanted to see this ever since I heard these two guys interviewed on Fresh Air. It was an enjoyable film, didn't always go where you thought it would. It had many similarities to The Wrestler in terms of atmosphere and the socio-economic status of the characters in the movie.
Good film, I recommend it for a quite Sunday.

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
My mom and I saw Ramona and Beezus this past week because there was really nothing much to see where we were that was not animated or very family friendly. Very cute and sweet and we bawled through the end. Not true to the books, except in spirit.
I would not pay full-price for this, but it is a very watchable movie and would make an excellent slumber party movie.

Curse Of The Golden Flower, a visual orgy of silk, gold and blood with lots of dark, tragic family shit.
We tried to watch Shutter Island last night but the Blu-ray disk was bad so we only got about halfway through.
