Default ¿Español?

Anyone out there want to help me with a translation? It has been a seriously long time since spanish class, but I am a leader in a club with a good amount of spanish users who I would love to offer a translation of our news. If anyone out there is fluent or at least better at spanish than me I would love a proofread. Here is what I have, and please don't laugh! :(

I want to offer translations to open the club for members everywhere (or to everyone).

But my Spanish is very limited. Please notify me of any errors!

Never mind ... you didn't need the translation to English ... you need an improved Spanish translation, yes?
He who laughs last ...

didn't get the joke. :braces:

Sorry, my Spanish is too rusty. Though I can tell your translation INTO Spanish needs more clarification.

Oh Im sorry I think I said this wrong. The spanish is what I wrote, and I just want to make sure that it doesn't sound stupid to a spanish speaking person! :giggle: Thanks, though.

To me it's constructed like a person who speaks English trying to say something in Spanish, and not like a native Spanish speaker would do it. The constructions "make sense" to me, as an English speaker, because I make the same vocabulary cognates and word order choices as English speakers do. So I'm afraid I'm not much help. Sorry!

Good luck, though!

I don't have to worry about sounding like an idiot anymore because one of our new members offered to translate for me! and his is much better, obviously.

And yeah, I kind of felt that way, too. It is hard for me to find the right words because there are so many different ways to say words in english, that searching for it in a dictionary will yield a result that normal spanish speakers wouldn't use. Thanks for your input, though :D I appreciate it. Maybe one day I can learn to write in spanish a bit better. Or english for that matter.

Well, I guess you don't need it anymore, but it would've been more helpful to post what you wanted to say in English, so I could be sure.

It didn't sound right tho.

For example:

En Junio club de 009fan es participación en un tema del club

translates to:

In June, club of 009fan is participation in a theme of the club

Which isn't idiomatic in Spanish anymore than it is in English, I don't think. I can't tell exactly what you want to say there either. But my Spanish isn't the greatest either, altho it's probably a bit less rusty than yours, as I took a course given in Spanish last semester.

Whoops, I suppose that would have been helpful. :giggle: Sorry! Could someone help me understand the meaning of this question?

"La banda Cyborg xD, se puede botar aki?"

She is voting for what she wants the theme for next month to be. I understand "la banda cyborg" is she is choosing the Cyborg Band option, but I don't understand the question after that.

I'm pretty sure "aki" is a misspelling of "aqui," which indicates it means "can it be [verbed] here?" I say [verbed] because I'm pretty sure "botar" isn't the word she meant to use. It means "to throw," I think. Basically, I think she means "Can we have that here?"

I think it is a misspelling, too, but the verb was confusing me too much to figure it out. But yes, that makes sense. Thank you.

It means "Can one vote here?"

Keep in mind that v and b are pronounced identically in Spanish (unless they've been influenced by another language, as in Spanish-speakers raised in the US). So if you can't figure out a word with b or v, it might be that it should have the other letter.

So, botar and votar sound the same...

I see this all the time on restaurant menus, seeing both ceviche and cebiche, for example. It's also the reason you see names for the letters like b larga and v corta (long b and short b), b de burro and v de vaca, etc.

So is that because they do speak Spanish or because they don't? :P

Hmm, that gives me an idea. I wonder if I can pull off a Chinese accent while saying "No hablee Espanolee" ...
