Matlock's phone:
Anyway, this happened. And for petty-ass stuck up people like myself who are all, "damn, grrl, didn't you know you were getting your photo taken that day?" I preemptively answer, no, I fucking didn't. Quit being so petty and stuck up all the time. Also, FYI, I did not say anything remotely close to the shit they quote me as saying.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
I forgot all about this thread. On Sunday I took the latch cover off my front door, carved out a larger hole and put it back because the door wasn't latching. It had probably been like that since my brother fit the new locks years ago but I never noticed because the deadbolt latched fine and I always used them both. But I fixed it myself without calling in my handyman brother. If that's not a braggable petty accomplishment, I don't know what is.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
I have one of these phones in the garage. Like this, but mine is an even older version from a thrift store.
My wife was like, why do you need a phone like that and I was like because when you're doing manly things in the garage, you get dirty and you can't use a smartphone unless you want oil and dirt all over the screen. I can dial this with the back of my hand and it can be filthy but not look dirty. Also, I like having one corded phone in the house that's powered by the magic in the phone line. When the power goes out, it still works.
I almost had to teach the kids how it operated.

I have one of these in my shop building. It would still work if I still had a landline service.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
That looks exactly like the phone my grandparents had on the wall in their house. Their "contacts list" was a small book hanging from a string under it. They had a long cord so you could walk around the kitchen. We were stuck sitting on the couch next to ours.
Then a cordless phone appears and took those off the walls.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
The cord on mine is long enough you can reach about halfway across the 30'x30' shop building.

Dad?
Seriously, except for the part about not having a land line anymore, he has the exact setup.

I have I think four of that model. Black, pink, white, and I think yellow. None of them are currently up, though. That's probably Matlock's fault somehow.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
I have that same black wall phone in my basement. I'm sure it's been there as long as the house has. It rings loudly but the connection's not good so I still usually run upstairs if the phone rings while I'm doing laundry.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
We had one of these in the garage growing up:
Also a black one with alligator clips instead of plugs that was apparently used to hack phone lines somehow. I can't remember, I was too young.
I do remember that old green phone was so loud, that you could hear it over the lawnmower. That is why it was in the garage. It blasted sound from the echoy shop into the street. When we were in highschool and got calls at all hours I am sure the neighbors loved it.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
The alligator clips were probably just for connecting to a phone line without a modular jack, so you could tap into a line. Linemen carry things called butt sets that work the same way so they can "butt in" to test lines from the pole.

I assume the petty accomplishment is just getting a write up in a student newspaper.
Cuz otherwise I'ma have to say something about you pretending like that's a petty accomplishment for you.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
Who are we kidding? I love bragging about the accomplishments of people I know! "The company you keep reflects on you", or so my dad often pointed out.
ES, that's wonderful for you, and I'm happy to know you.
