it is 2016 and this place is still alive. That's pretty cool. It's a bit older and slower, but it survives well in the new internet that doesn't really favour this format anymore. A lot of forums went the way of facebook. I think that is a shame because I think places like this are where real change can be made to bring about a more calm and tolerant future. That's a pretty grand thing to say, but these places sow seeds of tolerance and work well to expose the failings of what we all share in common...maybe the robots of the future will learn from us.

So here is to another year of your atheist bullshit propaganda. And remember: when the heat is on, never post a picture of an Iraqi fucking a donkey. It doesn't matter what point you're trying to make, it's not going to go well.

Happy new year! I'm balancing books (and not in the fun juggler way, more in the "crap i've spent too much" way) and watching my cat slowly lose his mind playing in a pile of catnip.

Then, my now former coworkers surpised the hell outta me. I had demurred on the whole 'retirement party' routine, only to have obvious pumping for information which could only lead to a party...."what's your favorite cake" is a dead giveaway. Anyway, I linked up two and told them to work it out.

The day of my retirement non-party came and I was disabled by a nasty norovirus and diverted puking my guts out. They didn't want me there. When I surfaced enough to check my emails, I found engaging pix of my retirement non-party, complete with me in attendance in cardboard cutout form. I was amused and pleased.

I was gifted a nice new red teeshirt with 'Smart Ass' with the Smart in text and the ass as a pic of Equus asinus. I picked the gift up upon my return.

The other shoe dropped when my supervisor, who had flown to distant places for his family holiday, returned before New Year's and my final departure. On his first day back he called my in to his office and asked how I liked my gift. I told him I liked the teeshirt just fine, but he interrupted me. He said, no...there was more. My coworkers had conspired to underwrite the costs of my adopting two burros for future placement on the five acres my SO and I plan on moving to...soon..."after our retirement".

It is a known that we have no enclosure prepared for the arrival of burros and we'll have to create one, and the barn needs to be cleaned out and spiffed up, but that's it and then call to set up a visit to the rescue farm to set up arrangements for fostering a pair.

I was with a friend in Eindhoven where I always am at New Year's Eve. We all missed his girlfriend who died in the Summer. But we still had fun playing stupid board games.
