You say .mpg, do you mean from .mpg files, MPEG-1, that you have on your computer?

You can strip out the sound with freeware software, for both the .mpg files and directly from MPEG2 (from DVD's) by using "backup" software.

If I get more details on exactly what you want, and exactly what system you are using, I can tell you what software to use (of course, I am using a Mac, so I know all of the software for that use a bit better then the PC's, although there is a LOT more software for the PC that is freely available).

I'm using WinXP. I'd like to be able to create .wav's from DVDs (have DVD drive) and/or MPEG movies.

Um, I haven't done this on the PC for a while, I can research more but of course before I can suggest anything I would have to try it, which means using MicroSquish software...this is difficult for me

You can't just plain record while it's playing without a mic? Try playing with your recording mixer settings until you get sound. Some ancient soundcards might not support this, but any modern one should. Unless the MPAA's outlawed it and broke the feature or something stupid like that.

A program I wrote(SDL_scope) was indispensable to me in figuring out what settings my mixer wanted - just run SDL_scope and a music player, then fiddle with the mixer until stuff starts showing up on the scope.
