Default State Politics

Do we have a thread for general discussion of state politics? If not, now we do.

Michigan Democrats had a two seat lead in the House until this week when two of the Dems won Mayoral races in their respective towns. Now the house is tied until there can be a special election to replace them. I understand them to be from deep blue areas so that shouldn't be an issue, but I also read that it may take months for a special election to occur. I can't seem to find any information on how this process works and why it might take so long.
