I like gay flutes. And Tony Banks's flashing fingers. In fact I go for the instrumental sections much more than the singing.

But a few decades more recently, I've been catching up with
Teargarden by Kaleidyscope by The Smashing Pumpkins (44 tracks, released one at a time online). They're up to track 10. Some of them haven't grown on me and maybe never will ... but some of them are rocking, alternatively.

I picked up Colin McPhee's memoir
A House in Bali , so I've been thinking about his work ever since, both in ethnomusicology and his own compositions. The first is a set of piano transcriptions McPhee made of traditional Balinese gamelan music, and the second is an original gamelan-inspired piece. McPhee's recordings and transcriptions can be heard on the CD
Bali: The Roots of Gamelan .
And for those who have never heard a gamelan:

I'm tired of the grind. Think I'll pack it in and go start a survivalist cult.

Love the atmosphere of this vid, it has such a cool feel. I like to see girls dance like that, as if they're sad and angry about something.

Old creole music, before they poured in a lot of blues and started calling it zydeco. I like the creole parts of zydeco but the blues parts not so much...
