RuPaul's Drag Race is Way, Way Better Than I Imagined
I'm never been a huge fan of drag -- the live shows I've been to gave me a bit of a contempt for women vibe underneath all the icon worship -- but I saw a clip of RuPaul's Drag Race on The Soup a few weeks ago and it made me lol so I sought out the whole episode.
Well, it's kind of genius, like the broken-condom baby of early Project Runway and early America's Next Top Model. The challenges are hilarious, the art of costume and makeup design is some kabuki insanity, the banter is sparkling and I don't know if Ru has writers or comes up with his lines on the spot, but Oscar Wilde is kicking himself in the nuts in heaven every Monday night.
Anyone else watching?

Oh my god that show is fantastic. RuPaul has been one of my heroes since she did Viva Glam for MAC in the 90s. I don't think all queens have that contempt for women thing, I think they're out to play a character. They make that person to be as over the top (and often bitchy) as humanly possible for maximum entertainment. I've talked with quite a few of the girls and they are usually having tons of fun.
But back to the show. JuJuBee was my favorite, I think that was season one or two?

Re: RuPaul's Drag Race is Way, Way Better Than I Imagined
I get that they're having fun, but there's a certain "ew ladyparts" thing underpinning terms like "fishy" and I saw that sort of thing frequently in audience interactions. It made me uncomfortable enough that I haven't been to a drag show in a decade.
Anyways, it's a testament to how great Drag Race is that that sort of thing doesn't bother me at all. I've only seen the first two episodes of this season, but it's so awesome I might have to go back and catch up on the early seasons.

I missed replying to this, srry. I totally understand that and have been witness to it as well. For as much as queens love strong women they still think girls are icky, I guess.
Mooooving on, here's an article that's a bit of a fun read. Bonus points of a picture of Henry Rollins with Ru.

Jinkx Monsoon's Little Edie impression from the Snatch Game is getting tons of press, and justly so because it was fucking hilarious. Even the throwaways like when she held the magnifying glass in front of her teeth made me lol like a crazy person.

Yeah, we're at a drag show in West Hollywood and one Miss Mariah Paris Balenciaga has taken the stage several times so far.

Liv, this is a thing. I wish it were on a more stylish glass, though.

It also needs much more decoration. At least some eyelashes, ya know?

No! I have to wait for it to come out on Netflix or whatever it's gonna show up on. Amazon Prime, maybe. No spoilers!

RuPaul is transgendered? I thought the RuPaul identity was more of a stage act.

Ya, all the drag queens refer to each other as "she" on the show.
