You could tell he was a hugely racist (and elitist in the non-coopted sense of the word) piece of shit every time he argued with someone - whether in debates or otherwise. He almost invariably found a way to pigeonhole the other guy according to some regionalistic stereotype, even if he had to make one up himself.

People don't remember or never knew in the first place what he was doing, because it was a long time ago, because a lot of it was sneaky (e.g., don't roll back consumer regulations, just defund or otherwise limit the powers of the regulators), and because it can be difficult to even tangle out which individual people were responsible for what, particularly when you go back to Reagan. People don't remember stuff that happened last week, let alone all the way back then. And most of the people who do remember have normalized it and can't imagine things being any different.

And of course, that's all on top of the huge, obvious comparisons to the present standards.

Posted here because it's going to come back to Trump sooner or later - arguably, as seen in Mariotti's thread, it already has.

I hope, for her sake, that her deal with prosecutors involves witness protection and ensures that deportation is off the table. I wouldn't take chances on returning to Russia if I were her, even if, as some people are speculating, she's doing this on Putin's instructions (I have no position on whether this is likely). I wouldn't count on her safety, should she return either voluntarily or otherwise.
