Condolences, Shelli. This, however, is a good thing to know about yourself, that you have the capacity to care about someone despite your personal dislike for that person. If you didn't already know this about yourself, then you have gained a valuable personal insight.

Re: Member News Discussion
One of the hardest parts of it all is watching and feeling the grief in my husband and my father-in-law. It's not every day that you see a grown man cry, let alone two. All I can do is be there with a hug. I can't take it away. I would if I could. It's also a big help that my sister-in-law and I were able to go through her clothes and such which included picking out an outfit for her to be dressed in for her wake. It was much easier for us to do that than her sons or husband. I also made arrangements for his kids to fly up from New Mexico Tuesday and got the itinerary to his ex-wife tonight all via computer which I'm better off doing even if he wasn't going through this.
Tomorrow, we're going to see the funeral home guy to make arrangements for the wake and then going to pick out flowers afterward. Part of today was spent going through pictures to find some that will be put in a slide show at the wake. That was actually kinda fun today and helped lift the mood a bit.
Then, I'll come home, get the bills paid, get the place cleaned up, and get a place to sleep for one of the kids made up. The other kid will stay with my husband's father. They'll most likely take turns. His father will appreciate the company, I'm sure. Right now, he's staying with my husband's brother and his wife.
The wake will be Thursday followed by a small Catholic service and she'll be cremated afterward. They are still debating as to what to do with the ashes.
As for me, I'm just going to do my best to stay calm and focused on getting what needs to be done, done.
I just wish I could get the image of her just after she died out of my mind, but that doesn't seem likely. It's not pretty when your bowel dies and the contents have no where to go except the path of least resistance. And it was horrifying watching and listening to her try to cough just before and then realizing what it was she was coughing on. Life sucks so bad sometimes.

I'm so sorry for your family's loss.
Good luck in the days ahead. I know that you will be busy taking care of the ones you love, but be sure to take care of yourself too.

I'm glad to be back, although not as much as I would like. Feeling better these days after getting over the initial shock of what happened. I still have bad days, but the good days are happening more now, so I hope that is a good sign.

Legs! i missed that, sorry Hope it goes away soon.
Shelli! Death is always hard to bear for us humans (and bowel infarctions are nasty). Just as well the docs loaded her up with morphine. Good that you knew how to deal with it and gave appropriate support.
Congrats, ES! I'll bet Bey can't wait!
Congrats on the new job, wilde
Hope I haven't missed anyone!

I'm taking my daughters laptop with me and the place I'm staying is supposed to have wireless, so I'll still be around.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier Shelli. I'm sorry for your family's loss. Even the family members we don't like much enrich our lives. Every person that drops out of your life is a loss.

Dragar!
To dust off an old chesnut: Polls have shown that the number one fear of people is public speaking, followed closely by the fear of death. Which means that most people would rather be in the casket than delivering the eulogy.

That's hilarious. While I find speaking nerve-wracking, it's actually quite an adrenaline rush (like much public performance is). So there's at least some enjoyment to counter the nerves.
Of course, I'll be talking in front of many more soon, and that may well be a bit more nerve-inducing. Then again, it will be a much shorter talk and won't be talk-and-chalk (as this one was).
