For the 3 fans of REM on this board - an early show at the best club Atlanta ever had. This is REM pre-record deal and it's a pretty damn good show.

Premiere: R.E.M. at Atlanta’s 688 Club, February 1981 — watch rare 40-minute set | slicing up eyeballs // 80s alternative music, college rock, indie

New Soundgarden album - King Animal. I wasn't overly impressed on the first listen, but it's grown on me a great deal. You can view them performing most of the new album live on Letterman.

I'm also liking Deftones - Koi No Yokan.

I played that for chunks recently. I'm glad to see my thrift store lifestyle finally validated by pop culture.

I love Youtube for allowing me to discover the music of lesser-known composers, despite the too frequent depredations of those barbarians at the RIAA, and right now I'm grooving to the extremely strange chamber music combinations of the late 18th century German composer Peter Winter.

In particular, he has a septet, which is already an unusual number of players, composed of a standard string quartet (two violins, viola, and cello) combined with two french horns and one clarinet. He has an even more bizarre combination of strings and winds in his octet, which consists of a violin, viola, double bass plus a flute, clarinet, bassoon, and two french horns. However, you can't argue with the results, which are quite striking.
