National Geographic Society, a non-profit since 1888, has
decided to sell the National Geographic magazines and National Geographic cable television networks to 20th Century Fox for $725 million, saying they can better fund their missions with the proceeds of the sale than with continued non-profit publications and television. They're framing this as a partnership, but it seems as though Fox (climate change denier billionaire Rupert Murdoch's company) will be in charge of what gets published and/or show on television. Their magazine subscriptions have fallen from a peak of about 12 million down to around 3.5 million, with another 3 million in non-English publication.
And they just lost one more.
