Re: Christmas Up Your Avatar
Liv will have this place so spirited with the holidays, we won't recognize it. So liv you better throw in a few smilies in the deco, so we will know where we are.
Great stuff!

Why, in oilfield terminology, that IS a christmas tree.
|
When I was reading oil-production magazines and journals, I though christmas trees only capped off underwater wells, because the only photos I saw labeled as christmas trees were the ones underwater.

That's a fun one, but my favorite oilfield term is still "pig launcher."

Nope. It is what they call that thing on top of the well casing. It's been called that long before there was even such thing as an offshore (underwater) well.

The thing at the other end of the line used to catch a pig at the end of a pig run, is called a pig trap.
Pipeline pigs sometimes look like sex toys:

Re: Christmas Up Your Avatar
Wait, there's pipe nipples, pup joints, and pump rods. Oh, and female unions and orifice plates.
EDIT: And hot-tapping, sucker rod, and stuffing box not to mention drilling.
EDIT2: Also witch's hats which are sometimes retained by a strainer nut, not to mention annular blowout preventers and even worse, ram blowout preventers.

Perverts. This is about Christmas Avatars and you have to come in here and dirty it up with your oil field sex.

Re: Christmas Up Your Avatar
Of course, there is also what oilfield workers do far too often, plug and abandon.

Yeah threadsmuttyuppers!!
What Sock meant by "'my favorite oilfield term is still "pig launcher." was "My favorite avatar fixerupper is Liv and wouldn't it be just the buttons if she were to fancy up my stark ol black and white avatar with gads of festive green and red dingle things!!"
Yeah, Socks talks funny that way.

Well, I was never in the industry, I read them at a clipping service. (I read technology, shipping, and business papers and magazines.) So a lot of my reading was very, very superficial.

Re: Christmas Up Your Avatar
I went with a dirty snow look for the ruff and pom-pom. It seemed to suit its bearer. I can easily brighten it if you wish. I'm all about the customization.
ETA: I added a second version with a slightly larger hat at a slightly rakish angle.

If you would like a Christmas avatar but can't find anything or need help making your vision come to life, say the word and we'll see what the lot of us can scare up.

I'd love to have a Christmassy Seven of Nine avatar, liv! LOL
I can find Voyager Christmas cards, but, needless to say, I have never seen any Voyager Christmas avatars.
