The director of issues analysis of a conservative fundamentalist Christian organization on Thursday asserted that the terrorists who attacked the United States on Sept. 11, 2001 were actually “the agents of God’s wrath” because they prompted “God Bless America” to be sung at Major League Baseball games and that is “one of the reasons we haven’t been hit since 9/11.”

The singing of this righteous hymn shall create a protective bubble around the country or the state in which the singing takes place. In the light of this I shall now be over at the appropriate thread requesting a smile of such a God-bless-America-bubble be created and hop to it!

Not defending Conservatives, but . . .
I take some issue with saying that this is a Conservative saying stupid shit. It's a Fundamentalist Christian saying stupid shit.
Or should the muzzy-headed platitudes of a New Ager count as Liberals saying stupid shit?

It did say in the quote conservative fundamentalist Christian, thereby avoiding the confusion with liberal fundamentalist Christians.

Re: Conservatives say stupid shit
Yes, but did he say it because he's Conservative, or because he's a Fundamentalist Christian?
From whence does the stupidity arise, in other words?
There actually are liberal Fundamentalist Christians. Not many, but there are.
Suppose it was one of them that had said this, do you think it would be fair for a Conservative to use them as an example of a Liberal saying stupid shit?
I think Liberals shouldn't resort to such sloppy categorization, not if they're trying to be intellectually honest, like they should be.
As an aside, I'm pretty Liberal. So, yeah.

Okay, so: restaurants I'll never again patronize: Papa John's (a shame; I think their pizzas are far superior to those of Dominos), Red Lobster, and Olive Garden. I'd add Applebees to the list, but I've never eaten at an Applebees, and have no desire to ever do so.

I don't think you'll be missing much.
Wow, those are some seriously lousy restaurants, even by national chain standards.

While that's probably true, I can't help but feel like all the "well their food sucks anyway, lol' comments all over twitter, facebook, and so forth miss the point. Papa John's owner would be exactly the same level of douchebag if they served the best pizza in the world. I would rather the conversation be about why the guy is 1) wrong and 2) an asshole than about how much his pizza sucks, even if it does. Same goes for Applebees, etc.

I don't think anyone is unclear on why people boycotting those places, though. That conversation is being had already, all over the place. It's just also a good time to bring up the fact that their food is terrible.
And wei is spot on there. For some reason, it's almost all the worst restaurants that are making the biggest stink. Almost like it's cause and effect, which it may well be in part.

Can I still call it a boycott if I would rather eat the ass end of a dead raccoon than have a meal there anyway?
I guess in fairness, I would rather eat a pizza from Papa John's than the ass end of a dead raccoon, but Red Lobster? Nah mang.

I am switching my pizza joint to Papa John's just so I can not buy pizzas there.

Rather than just make a smartass remark, I figured I would expound on this. I actually think the GOP would do very well to tone down the social conservatism rhetoric.
If Mitt Romney ran his whole campaign like he ran the last two weeks of it, he may have pulled it off. But then again, maybe not. I think voters are finally wising up to the "cut taxes and the economy will grow" line. And I think having things like abortion dominate so much of the debate in a year when people are far more concerned about keeping their jobs (or getting a job) was a mistake. People don't give a shit about social issues when they can't put food on the table.
Social conservatism notwithstanding, I also think it's time the GOP recognizes that it needs a new economic policy philosophy. When Reagan took office and the top marginal tax rate was 70%, across-the-board cuts made sense. The top marginal rate now is 35%, cutting it a few percentage points is not going to give you much bang for the buck (although it will exacerbate our deficit problems).

Pat Robertson's take on the Patraeus affair.
I think he missed the part about traditional marriage and hurricanes.

I love the "it has been discovered" phrasing.
Recent discoveries:
1. Higgs boson
2. Fossilized Massospondylus eggs
3. What the 12th Amendment says

Re: Conservatives say stupid shit
Well gawd it's so cryptic and confusing, of course it took a couple of centuries to discover its meaning
Quote:
The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice.
