We interrupt our regularly scheduled bleating and babbling for this important public announcement -

Hey you, White Hou-ouse,
haha, charade you are,
You house proud town mouse,
haha, charade you are

You've got to spend the equal time,
and keep it all on the inside

Man I still love that album, it's one of the few that don't go stale.

Now back to our regularly scheduled bleating and babbling. Bah!

Mastodon expected more criticism because "covering 'Stairway' should be illegal".

But they did as a tribute to their manager Nick John (him with the beard and sunglasses in the thumbnail) who died of cancer last year - playing it at the funeral, at his wife's request (live version below), and then recording the above studio version.

It's p good. Quite faithful at least in the opening, and enough of their own flavour to make it a worthy cover.

I'm getting into vintage jazz. Why? The singers can actually sing, not just scream or cuss to a beat. The instrumentalists can actually play their instruments, not just pound on them. Nobody is trying to be what they're not.

Here's two of my top five favorite rock drummers, Simon Phillips and Gavin Harrison, doing an honest to God duet. Brings to mind post-Gabriel iterations of Genesis, when Chester Thompson and Phil Collins performed superb duets on a nightly basis during tours.

Via some tortuous trail of links through TV Tropes ...

Quote:

Some only for a few seconds.

Entirely random (within the range of what Spotify knows about me). Not at all topical.

For some reason I had an urge to listen to Atomic Rooster after that.

Brian Eno - New Space Music - YouTube

Comment: Eno’s records are accidental weapons against the tyranny of the open floor workspace.

WTF? I just now came in here to offer an olive branch to Sack to end our longstanding impasse with:

And you draw First Eno?

Well, I never.

Not even once.
