Default Apple Pie Soup

Picked up a frozen dutch apple pie the other day, and I just finished cooking it. Despite forgetting the time and not pulling it out until parts of the top crust had just started to be more readily identified as black than brown, the bottom crust was not solid or fully cooked. Whatever they did with the filling caused it to remain very liquid and not at all set. It still tastes good, but I am most definitely eating a soup flavored like apple pie, not an actual slice of apple pie. I don't remember if I ever had this problem with that brand before, but I probably won't be buying it again in the future.

Making my own apple pie is usually a bit beyond my culinary ambitions, though, so I'll just have to find a brand that does it right.

Making apple pie is easy.

If you have a food processor, making the crust is pretty easy too.

:yeahthat:

Apple pie is ridiculously easy. I think the best ones have few ingredients and just use good apples. In fact I have one I made this fall in my freezer I was thinking about baking up this week.

Yeah but then you have to spend half the day cutting up fucking apples.

How about Apple Pie: The Liquor then. One of my cousins made this for Christmas/New Years.

To the best of my recollection...

(actually found a recipe online and it's exactly what he did) Apple Pie Moonshine

Recipe #2

1 gallon of apple juice

1 gallon of apple cider

3 cups sugar

6 cinnamon sticks

1 bottle everclear (750 ml)

Mix everything but the alcohol in a large pot and cover. Bring to a coil and make sure the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, remove the cinnamon sticks, cool and then add alcohol. Makes 192 shots.

Sooooo good.

This comes from the book The Gourmet Slow Cooker, by Lynn Alley. She says that it can be served as a spicy dessert soup or as a main course, accompanied by fresh Cheddar cheese bisquits.

1 cinnamon stick, broken into pieces
6 whole cloves
6 allspice berries
6 cups water or apple cider
4 large Granny Smith apples, cored and sliced
2/3 cup raisins
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 tablespoons brandy (optional)
3 to 4 tablespoons honey (optional)
1/2 cup yogurt or sour cream for serving

Combine cinnamon, cloves and allspice in a morter or coffee grinder & grind to a fine powder

Combine water, apples, raisins, nutmeg & spice mixture in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, until the apples are soft and falling aspart.

Just before serving, stir in the lemon juice, brandy and honey to taste. Ladle into soup bowls and top with a dollop of yogurt. Serve immediately.

What you're referring to by food processor? I think crust is always a concern and that's where almost many people lack :)
