HOLY CATS I almost just got smacked in the face with a hawk.
I was just walking around the corner and it came in the other way, going after the bajillion little birds that live in our trees prolly, and it grazed my hair. We were both all like, "HEY!"
A few inches off and I'd have gotten Fabioed.

Re: What's up with you?
My allergies are completely insane this summer. I take a 24 hour pill every day but I'm still sniffling and wiping my eyes all day. It's been particularly hard around my eyes, the skin is drying out terribly from all the tears, itching and rubbing.
Someone please shoot me.

Yeah, i noticed the same. My allergies normally start somewhere in April and last for 2-3 weeks. It's almost September and they're still pretty bad.

Re: What's up with you?
So, there's this unbelievably cool sounding job that I would love to do and probably be very good at. But it's in Colorado and would require a huge pay cut. Anybody know anything about Thornton, Colorado? I'm wondering if I should even consider it.

Re: What's up with you?
Thornton is a suburb of Denver, just to the north and east. I've cut wheat within a stone's throw of Thornton city limits, and I can't throw a stone very far.
Edit: You work in a library and THAT would be a pay cut?

Have your tried vitamin C? It might work. It works for most everything else.
I know it works pretty good for colds at least or, muscle pain and/or fatigue.
It also works great for clearing your sinuses.

Re: What's up with you?
I spent the last two and a half weeks in a crazy hell of anxiety attacks with fear in between while asking myself what the fucking hell was going one (apart from a massacre in Gaza that showed no sign of abating any time soon and that I felt guilty about not doing more to contribute or take the train and go demonstrate in a mass of people and crippling fear to call a friend whose girfriend has terminal cancer and even more crippling guilt about not being able to call without knowing why). Went to my regular doctor last week because it's the only way to get a referral but she offered nothing but 'why don't you go back to the therapist you went to for your depression last year', repeated 5 times with me trying to explain why I really didn't want to go there and not succeeding, being in the middle of fucking panic attack and sweating and showing symptoms of being on the verge of collapse in my opinion. Somewhere in between the useless attempts to get me to do wtf they wanted they offered me sedatives out of the blue, which is absolutely unheard of for a Dutch doctor who you usually have to point a gun at to get any medication out of, and then after you fill out a form in triplicate. But then she told me to take one a day, while the brochure said take 1 or 2, 3 to 4 times a day in case of severe anxiety. She gave me 20, which was enough for 2 and a half days of terror...
So I walked out of there with even less hope of getting out or getting any real information. I am pretty sure I would have jumped from a bridge or something if I hadn't had a very persistent friend who refused to stop talking to me even if while I was barely responding and then not able to explain why I wasn't. And encouraging me to talk to other people. When I finally called a friend and told her about the anxiety attacks she said "Jesus" and told me she was gonna look some stuff up and call me back, because she was abroad. And then I remembered, because thinking wasn't my strong point at the time, that she had dealt with severe anxiety 15 years ago when she'd just started a shiny new job. Pressure up to the eyeballs. So yeah, the whole Gaza/cancer/guilt trip, the new 'volunteer' work you can't refuse and not being able to finish even the work I was doing, let alone the piles of extra work because of the ongoing bloodbath which brought back my personal ptsd (which I even felt guilty about that because it's nothing compared to what the Gazans are going through right now, you pussy) came to a violent head.
So now thanks to a persistent friend who bullied me into pulling out enough to call another friend who actually had some useful information I was able to get out of the worst black hole I have ever been in in my entire life and call a place where I can get some help (on the waiting list, but at least it's a way out).
And I was finally able to call my friend, whose girlfriend has actually been improving, so at least that is one thing that ended very well. Also the Gaza massacre seems to have been resolved till the next time, by sheer coincidence. I will have a long way to go to get the help I need and have needed for a long time I think. I have always thought of myself as someone who would never kill himself and I even convinced myself I have never been close. But this was very, very close and the friend who got me through reminded me that I had mentioned one time once when I was close to stepping off a high rise roof at a time when I felt like I was trapped in a situation i couldn't handle. And I am pretty pissed this time at the healthcare system and the unemployment bureau who just threw me into a situation with contradictory information, no time to finish the (real) volunteer work they recommended I should do in the first place and an unresponsive 'contact'. Fucking murderers.

Re: What's up with you?
Janet, as stated there before me, Thornton is part of the Denver metro area. My friend recently moved to CO and she was surprised at the high price of real estate...but other than that, the area has a lot to offer. There's museums and parks and good shopping and easy access to the outdoors esp. the mountains. All the amenities.
I personally won't live where Winter also lives anymore, but if that didn't bother me Denver is p. good

Re: What's up with you?
I found my allergies were a little better in Colorado too. But one of the billion or two things I'm allergic to is conifers so the bark beetles prolly helped with that.
I had 75 small uncomfortable pricks this year (insert your wife did too joke here) to test allergies before they put me on a stronger nasal spray that sort of works mostly but gives me occasional bloody noses.
I loves the outdoors, but it hates me.
I may do allergy therapy next year where they give you a billion shots to somehow fix you or something.

We live right next to Thornton, so my new project is to make you move there so we can hang out and also open that movie theater.
I am in ABQ this week and posting on my tablet but I will make my case at great length and persuasiveness when I am re-computered.

Re: What's up with you?
I look forward to hearing it. After all, I've lived next door to Juggalos before so I should be able to cope with Juggalonia.
As far as salary goes, I am paying off a boatload of student loan debt from getting my masters degree, so that doesn't sound like high pay at all. I'm in a union position with 14 years on the job which helps. But librarians on average make a lot less than any other position that requires a masters degree.

Re: What's up with you?
From the Department of Good News/Bad News:
The good news is that I can be certain that the case for which I'm in the pool of potential jurors will not be the same kind as the last case that I found morally objectionable.
The bad news is that the reason I'm certain is that this case is projected to last for EIGHT WEEKS!!
P. S. For Watser?:

Re: What's up with you?
I for one hope you get selected. Not because I am cruel and wish you torment and anguish but because I would look forward to your preliminary and final reports on being a member of a jury.
Eight weeks tho.

Re: What's up with you?
There won't be anything going on until next Friday, which is when jury selection is due to begin, and the only thing I know about the case is that the presiding judge is one on the Superior Court bench by the name of Kenneth So. I can't infer anything from that, because superior courts hear both criminal and civil cases, but the esquires with access to Lexis might be able to look up his past cases and see what kind are usually assigned to him (hint, hint).
However, I haven't heard anything about a big criminal case in the works, and usually criminal cases projected to last for months hit the headlines long before they reach the trial phase. (Although it might be this one. It would be ironic if it were to be the Azano case, because I read this article in the jury lounge today.)

Re: What's up with you?
Wow, they give you a lot of information before hand. We just call on the day, and if there is jury selection that day you go in. If not you are excused. They don't tell you in advance of selection how long the trial will take. As I recall it was one of the standard questions from the judge about ability to stay that long, but he only asked people in the box. My last call we went through about thirty or so jurors who didn't make it. I never got called but I had all the questions practically memorized.

Re: What's up with you?
I think they told us about this because they wanted to sort out early on those who could make the commitment beforehand vs. those who would have to be excused. They were also selecting jurors for a case that was thought might take two weeks, so those people were singled out too. Otherwise, we were told that cases last an average of three to seven days.
