So this is in relation to the moron murderer Kyle Rittenhouse.

Rittenhouse is being charged as an adult with six criminal counts: first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under the age of 18. The first five are felonies; the weapon possession charge is a misdemeanor. While Rittenhouse’s attorneys will likely combat the various homicide charges by claiming self-defense, NBC News reported on Monday that Rittenhouse’s attorneys are planning to fight the possession charge by arguing that Rittenhouse was acting as part of a “well-regulated militia” under the Second Amendment.

and this is really stupid for lots of reasons, but they are claiming he was part of a private militia and those aren't actually legal things, that's just an armed gang.

It's like the dipshits think militia is just dipshits with guns, but just because that's how it's used doesn't mean that is what a militia is legally.

I am going with the daughter to take the State Concealed Carry training class next week.
She feels the need to get the permit because of a crazy-ass Ex who just got out of Prison, and didn't want to go alone.
I don't see myself actually getting the permit, but I have long been curious what the training is about.

You just don’t store firearms in that manner with rounds in the mag, and what appears to be the bolt locked backed and dust cover open. She almost certainly went and got the guns, purposefully loaded window mags, and placed them there just for that shot.

It is all performative, but I've seen multiple pictures and a video or two where those guns are in her background. I think she leaves them there for decorative purposes.

While this is a ‘freak’ accident and I don’t think the guy is a moron in the range of others, it’s also not actually a freak accident given there’s no reason to have your face that close to an unknown amount of explosives in a contained system without an enemy vehicle baring down on you.

Basically the .50 cal BMG is a massive round the size of a small bomb with many rounds designed to stop vehicles and penetrate armor, because of this there’s a huge variety of armor penetrating designs to figure out what works best, but all based on the idea that something very dense moving very fast will punch through metal armor. With some designs being poorly documented and old it’s really unknown exactly how much boom they will make but as speed is the key, it’s probably a lot. Enter the SLAP round, Sabot Light Armor Penetrator. The sabot design (a small often finned projectile guided down the barrel by some plug) is often tried and often failed design when it comes to rifles. An expensive, rare and aging round.

While on one hand the type of .50 bmg firearm he was shooting is better than some at dealing with overpressure, it’s design, a screwed cap on the back of the barrel chamber, has only two catastrophic failure modes and one is sending the cap straight back, which is exactly what happened, shearing off two tabs, sending the cap into his safety glasses protected eyes, and the tab into his jugular and lung. The safety glasses are why I’m not saying he’s a complete moron, there was some safety in mind, the glasses almost certainly saved his eyeball by spreading the force. (The other failure is is a split barrel from an obstruction).

This is overall why I like watching these videos from behind a monitor and expect someone to eventually actually die when fucking around like this.

When dealing with explosives it’s best to figure the most catastrophic ways of failure, add a bit of error room just incase and work backwards from there. This includes the fact that as explosives age their structure and composition may change. Some may decompose and become weaker as they age, others can crystalize or coalesce (weeping dynamite being famous) becoming stronger or more volatile as they age.

The mythbusters did it right, once they reached even a slightly appreciable combination of power and unpredictability, out came strings and servos.

A cap screwed on with a thread? Holy shitballs, that design is such a mind-boggling load of garbage obviously made by a bunch of morons, you'd have to be clinically insane to ever want to shoot that thing.
